Every couple of years espadrilles come into fashion’s consciousness as a shoe of the moment. Summer 2011 is one such season  where espadrilles are more than ever present. We visited Catherine Malandrino’s showroom last week and got a look-see at both her Malandrino and Catherine Malandrino lines. Designer Malandrino’s talent, which we appreciate greatly, is her ability to design garment after garment that subtly celebrates the power of grown-woman sexiness. The designs are complex yet somehow still easy and relaxed. While there, we snapped images of the shoes and some of the accessories for Autumn 2011. Malandrino takes some very current silhouettes, but makes them special with braided leather. A cute campaign by Nine West, called “The Straw That Kicked The Stiletto’s Ass,” featuring what Nine West describes as its spring line up of espadrilles, though the truth is they’re a hybrid sandal of sorts, combining super-high rope heels with a variety of uppers. Either way, some are quite sharp and should be a hit with females who like to be high, high, high even when working a casual look.
