Chanel Runway Resort 2013

ChanelResort2013-a (30)

Even though Chanel designs don’t vary a ton and are therefore some of the most easily identifiable looks in the fashion world, each collection has its own special look and feel. Resort 2013 was a little more light-hearted than what has as of late, what with the platform shoes, denim themes and Flapper hairdos. And while dresses and skirts of course had that ladylike dna, a theme of pixie cuteness was brushed like fairy dust over the entire collection.

RodarteStarryNight 540x477 Rodarte Van Gogh Skirts Spring Summer 2012

Have a look at Rodarte’s Van Gogh-inspired “Starry Night” and “Sunflowers” side-draped silk skirts, a concept orginally shown as gowns for the label’s Spring Summer 2012 runway show. In the form of a skirt, they  allow for all the imagination and fun of the high concept runway look in a more everyday wearable version. All are U.S. handmade, and while a total of three ”Sunflowers” skirts were produced Riccardi has the one and only “Starry Night” version. These iconic skirts are now available for $2,295 each. All images and copy by Joseph Morrissey.

LouisVuittonBagsAW2012 (13)

While bits of Marc Jacobs whimsy remain in the form of colored stones, sparkle and patent finishes and extravagently long yak hair for one group, long gone are the days of Murakami cherries, fox fur tails, over-sized tassels and fanny paks. More so then every Louis Vuitton bags have returned to their more serious roots, emphasizing durability and functionality. And this collection in particular shines a light on the brand’s luggage offerings, which have been left out of previous runway shows. A smart move given their hefty price tags, not to mention a nice appeal to men, who are widely viewed in the bag industry as an important avenue of growth.
