Viktor & Rolf Fall 2010 Runway Show: Crazy!

12 March 2010, 22.14 | Posted in Runway Show | No comments »

Here’s video of the Viktor & Rolf  Fall 2010 runway show, which took place in Paris a few days back. The show was entitled ‘Glamour Factory,” and according to Wallpaper, the show opened with model Kristen McMenamy dressed in 23 (!!) layers. The designers then undressed Kristen and put the garments on other models until Kristen was completely undressed. They then reversed the process and relayered her until she was back to her original multi-layered outfit. Crazy dramatic. And yep, the clothes themselves backed up all the pageantry. The one issue is that V & R staged a similar show back in 1999. Of course that was before fashion’s every move was documeted on the internet so I could see how they think it was worthy of a redo.

MiuMiuLiveatLove Love Magazine: Watch Miu Miu Show Live Today!

The Love Magazine will be live streaming  Miu Miu Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection today at  at  8:00 GMT. For all our American readers, that translates to 3:00 EST….I think, I’m so time challenged that I have the self esteem issues of a 14-year old when it comes to speaking about anything that requires a clock or calendar (I mean what is with that “+ 1″ in the flier anyway?). Correct me if I’m wrong, which I probably am!

The Making of the Chanel Runway

ChanelIceFront The Making of the Chanel Runway

We posted earlier about Karl being inspired by plushies for his fall ready-to-wear collection, and today we delve into some of the background of the amazing runway the furrie models walked for the show. According to Wallpaper, “the runway was painted with a trompe l’oeil effect, giving the impression of deep, glacial ice underneath. This was topped with a shallow layer of water. Chanel had also hired 35 ice sculptors who, over the course of 6 days, hewed 240 tonnes of ‘snice’ (frozen snow-ice, if you’re unfamiliar with the term) into a dramatic icescape, reaching 8.5 metres at its highest point. Models donned special transparent Chanel galoshes to wade through the watery catwalk and pace around the Iceberg.” One question, how do you find 35 ice sculptors?? Lol, can you imagine the Craig’sList ad?

Chanel Ready to Wear Fall 2010: Plushie Luv!!

It’s funny because today earlier I was posting about a three-year-old Married to the Mob video and how MOB designer Leah McSweeney was an early appreciator of the wonders of plushies. I wonder if when Karl did this collection he was aware of the whole stuffed animal sex fetish thing. I’m thinking he had to be. I have to say when you stumble upon the world of plushophiles, it is really fascinating and inspiring. Just read the following quotes from a well-known Vanity Fair article on furry fandom and see if it doesn’t make you smile: “We’re a group of people who like things having to do with animals and cartoons,” a man in a tiger suit tells a woman. “We’re furries.” Maybe after a year of more b.s. than he could imagine, Karl was looking to feel a little happy. Bless his creative heart if that is the case.

Chain Nails at Gareth Pugh Fall 2010!!!

Chain Nails at Gareth Pugh Fall 2010!!!

At British designer Gareth Pugh’s fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection, models’ nails were done up by Manicurist Marian Newman, who used CND polish to create a chevron design, which was supplemented for a handful of the girls with hanging chains! We are speechless and overcome with love!!! Can you imagine? On the inspiration for her other-worldly manicures, Newman said, “I have long been fascinated with metal chains imitating the movement and feel of fabric. To compliment the draped chains of some of the pieces in the collection, miniature versions of the chains were applied to the chevron nails as an accessory. Long, swaying, swirling chains were used on some nails, and others had a shorter ‘day version.’”

The day versions after the flip, plus nails with just the chevron and more looks from the show.

 Manish Arora Autumn/Winter 2010

As much as I  was not  impressed by their reviews of the show,  I loved the fact  that  vogue.com US  is finally including Manish Arora on their designer roster,  After all these years!  The collection is as usual super colorful featuring Arora’s signature ability to mix patterns  colors and textures with   a sense of edginess that is always optimistic,  never dark or morose. A closer look on the next page. Images via style.

Balenciaga Fall 2010 RTW: Block Heel Shoes

Balenciaga, the label loved by design fanatics just showed its Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection and what stood out above all else was the color pallette. The shoes featured above should give you a very good feel for the predominant color themes of the collection. Me personally I have never lusted for the big B. I feel likes it’s over my head. As such, I’m not going to annoy the Balenciaga fans with my lackluster comments about the above shoes (images from Style). Perhaps my partner will chime in….
