For the American Music Awards red carpet, Nicki Minaj wore a design by Indian fashion designer Manish Arora, and when interviewed on the carpet and asked to describe what the dress would say if it could speak, she answered, “I am such a bad diva bitch!” Rap fans have been buzzing over Minaj’s recent direct-hit comments about Lil Kim, who Minaj has been reluctant to call about by name. Said Minaj in quite the rant, “I feel like, [Lil Kim is] going to go down in history now as a sore loser, as opposed to going down in history as the Queen.” Ouch!

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards took place last night with menswear designer Billy Reid the winner. The red carpet was the most interesting part and as always we’ve highlighted our faves. On this page we have a ying and yang situation with the Olsen twins on one side, decked as they often are as of late in lots of fur and Chanel Iman on the other side, looking summery and still working her super tight, post Victoria’s Secret runway bod. On the next page Kim Kardashian, Keri Hilson, Christina Ricci, Blake Lively, Carey Mulligan, Diane Von Furstenberg and Tory Burch who came with her sweetie, Lyor Cohen (which I have a hard time wrapping my head around but okay).

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Los Angeles Annual Gala celebrates a convergence of art, design, architecture, fashion, music, and performance, and this year it was sponsored in part by Chanel. While there were plenty of celebs in attendance, if you look at the more candid Wire Image shots, you get a sense that the event was a bit of a bore, with no shortage of people staring off into space or looking disinterested in whomever they’re chatting with. Chloe is featured here, ever loyal to her East Village don’t-give-an-eff soul (which is why we love her), she wears minimal makeup and chose a white pants suit while just about every other woman in attendance wore a formal dress. Next page Gwen Stefani, Athony Kiedis, Rachel Zoe, Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst and the Mulleavy sisters, who are once again working the frump card, which, given their job title, is sort of fascinating!

Hermes is already sick of LVMH’s pushy ways, specifically according to the CEO, “There is nothing friendly about this move. It was neither desired nor solicited. It is very probable that he will increase his stake, I don’t know his intentions.” –WWD

The MTV Video Music Awards is still in progress, and the show seems a little flatter than usual. Though it’s as consistently unfunny as it’s always been, that’s for sure. As far as celebs go, there is very much a broken record/usual suspects feel: Katy Perry flashing her mani, Lady Gaga with a whacky head piece, Rihanna looking avant guard…blah, blah, blah. Definitely have a peek at Will.I.Am’s get up….a stumper. More looks after the flip.

All eyes in the fashion industry are going to be on “Black Swan,” a suspense film featuring Queen Amidala, thanks to Rodarte’s participation as costume designer. The red carpet at the Venice premiere yesterday didn’t disappoint (Waaah–why can’t Hollywood events be like this??), and as lovely as Portman’s red Rodarte gown was, she had lots of worthy competition, including and especially the lux white gown worn by Delfina Fendi featured above. Many more looks, including Portman’s dress on next page.
