Tommy Ton Best-Dressed 2010 List

Tommy Ton Best Dressed 2010 List

One of the fashion world’s best known street photographers, Tommy Ton, has chosen his favorite style stars from the year 2010 for Style.com. Glamour.com editor Susan Cernek (featured above) is one of his picks. Figuring out the politics of this list is a bit tough because Style is now under the Fairchild ownership umbrella, which makes it less directly connected to Conde Nast though they’re both still owned by the same parent company. The editors on Ton’s list are mostly Conde Nast (including Cernek), but a couple of outsiders–one from Marie Claire and the other from Pop–do get mentions. However, two are prominently missing, soon-to-be-former-editor of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, which is baffling, and Elle’s Kate Lanphear, who has almost goddess status among most street photographers, including Ton. Given Elle is Vogue’s main competitor her absence makes one wonder…. See the rest at Style.

Kate Moss For Brian Ferry Album Art

KMBFDailyMail 540x536 Kate Moss For Brian Ferry Album Art

Kate Moss is featured on the cover of rocker Bryan Ferry’s latest album, “Olympia,” as photographed by Adam Whitehead. Moss is one of a long line of beauties featured on Ferry’s albums, most from when he was a member of Roxy Music. According to Dailymail, one of the covers featured Jerry Hall, who Ferry proposed to. They were engaged until she was swept away by Mick Jagger. On choosing Moss, Ferry commented, “I normally use unknown women–it’s nice to discover girls for that kind of thing. But this time I thought it would be a good idea to ask Kate, because she’s a great femme fatale of our era.” Additional black and white images from the shoot via Nowness on the next page.

Vice Style ‘Fire Walk With Me’ Editorial

Vice131 540x379 Vice Style Fire Walk With Me Editorial

Not very long ago photographer Ellen Von Unwerth complained of the lack of freedom when it comes to fashion photography, in her estimation because of dictation by conservative advertisers. This is not apparently an issue at Vice Style, where the shoot “Fire Walk With Me,” featured all the taboos Unwerth mentioned and then some. The theme of the editorial is your basic lives gone off the tracks. Shot by Jonathan Leder, it’s a nostalgic look at the ’60s, albeit one filled with anguish, a snapshot of a time when getting high and drunk and having same sex relationships was still a no-no and best kept secret. More on the next page.
