Preview Video: ‘Nobody Walks’ Co-Written By Lena Dunham

07 August 2012, 00.21 | Posted in celebrity, movie | No comments »

This is a preview of a film titled Nobody Walks, as co-written by Lena Denham, she of HBO Girls fame. It looks like a movie on relationships that is twisted and somewhat dark and complicated so I’m sure I will love it. It stars John Krasinski and Olivia Thirlby

Also, let it be known I blame this post on my co-editor SGP. She brought up Girls this morning and I got to pining and went and searched around for the latest news on the series. So tomorrow be warned I’m going to do a Girls catch-up post. As a little preview, did you know that Nas’s favorite tv show is Girls?? Yes, that Nas, Nassir Jones aka the Don, Esko, etc. He is quoted in a recent People magazine article as saying, “My favorite show right now is Girls. I don’t know where this girl Lena Dunham came from, but she’s amazing!” I agree, Nas!

Madonna On Cover Of Bazaar December Issue

HBZ Madonna and Andrea Riseborough Subscriber Cover

The legendary Madonna with Andrea Riseborough is on the cover of Harper Bazaar’s December issue (see a second version on th next page). Inside she’s interviewed by Naomi Wolf and speaks about some of her favorite topics–money, power & respect and their impact on women. Riseborough is the star of a movie, W.E., which Madonna directed and is now promoting. The following are some key quotes from the article:

For some reason, I feel like I never left high school, because I still feel that if you don’t fit in, you’re going to get your ass kicked. That hasn’t really changed for me. I’ve always been acutely aware of differences and the way you are supposed to act if you want to be popular.

”I’ve consistently come up against resistance in certain areas. I think that the world is not comfortable with female sexuality. It’s always coming from a male point of view, and a woman is being objectified by a man — and even women are comfortable with that. But when a woman does it, ironically, women are uncomfortable with it. I think a lot of that has to do with conditioning.”
“One of my father’s famous quotes — and I love him dearly, but he’s very, very old-fashioned—was ‘If there were more virgins, the world would be a better place.’”

“When women are perceived as powerful and doing something they aren’t supposed to be doing, they are often portrayed as sexual predators.”

A Tribe Called Quest Documentary Opens Today

Can I kick it? Their sound definitely represented a moment in hip-hop time–those early heady times when everything seemed possible and the joy from being in on a beautiful new creation that comes pre-mass takeover was the dominant current running through the scene.

If you’re in New York, you can see Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest in three different theaters. Not sure about elsewhere. In the meantime check out the clip above if only because the fineness quotient is very high!

CannesKarolinaKurkova21 359x540 More Cannes Film Festival Gowns: Roitfeld, Kurkova, Dunst, Naomi, Etc.

How long does this Cannes Film Festival go on for?? Because frankly I’m easily bored and have just about had it with the parade of expensive long dresses, but now that I started I feel obliged to finish. One thing I’ve learned, a lot of super models attend this event. Lots! It’s like a Karl Lagerfeld show–so perhaps this is a French theme whereby beauty is not just viewed as fleeting and shallow, it’s a necessity of life.

Above model Karolina Kurkova who exhibits why she makes the big bucks. After the flip, a Carine Roitfeld spotting (she’s really into lace this year!), plus Kursten Dunst, Naomi with her badboy Russian boyfriend, Laetitia Casta, Milla Jovovich and a bunch more.

Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet Arrivals

CannesFanBingBing3 369x540 Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet Arrivals

The images featured here are from the opening ceremony for France’s Cannes Film Festival and the “Midnight In Paris” movie premiere. Above is actress Fan Bingbing, whose gown we liked (and whose last name is so fun to pronounce!). In general the red carpet theme du jour was grown-woman elegance, reflected in form-fitting, strapless gowns in solid colors. Nothing earth-shattering from a fashion perspective but plenty of above-average pageantry–worth a look if only to spot the subtle differences from a typical U.S. red carpet event.

There are many more images, including Uma Thurman, Karolina Kurkova, Bianca Balti, Grace Hightower, Rachel McAdams, etc., on the next page. Enjoy!

Tribeca Film Festival: Karl, Anna, Olsens, Turlington, Etc.

22 April 2011, 15.59 | Posted in Red Carpet, celebrity, movie | 2 comments »

There have been a number of Tribeca Film Festival events this past week in New York, and quite a few celebrities have been in attendance, ranging from fashion heavy hitters like Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld (who showed a Magnum Ice Cream commerical he directed, featuring Rachel Bilson) to professional party attenders and names from days gone by like Susanna Hoffs and Debbi Peterson of the Bangles. We culled through the images and picked our faves–some we know well and others we are clueless on, but whatever, their fashion choices caught our eye and a lot of the time that is all that matters. That’s Ashley and MK above of course–a little prezzy for SGP, who is an admirer of their styles choices, and as it happens in this instance we were in agreement.

More on the next page, including Leigh Lezark, Lauren Hutten, Zoe Karvitz, Susanna Hoffs & Debbi Peterson, Crystal Renn, Christy Turlington, Rachel Bilson, Christy Turlington, Karolina Kurkova, Jay Choi, Sky Ferreira and a few more.

Video: Lady Gaga ‘Gagavision No 43′

21 April 2011, 18.06 | Posted in celebrity, movie, nail art | No comments »

Lady Gaga presents “Gagavision” No. 43, discussing the creative process behind her recent singles “Judas” and “Born This Way.” She also does a lot of flashing of her ruby red, talon manicure, which, if somehow she gets credited for being the one who “discovered” this shape, we’re going to be fighting. Gaga may be its biggest celebrity launchpad, but the talon shape has been around for more than a minute before she started sporting it.
