The incredibly sumptuous Lara Stone, the model of the moment, was interviewed by Marc Jacobs for the March issue of Interview magazine. MJ is not only an amazing designer, but he also asks good questions! What can’t this man do?? Lara was photographed by Marcus Piggot for Interview, but the source for this image is Blackeett.
My partner is kind of vexed by this V Magazine photo shoot because she says it drains all the edge out of the duo, Salt ‘n’ Pepa, who insipred it. I agree, but then again that’s what fashion (and film and literature, etc) always do. About five to ten years after the fact, they land on a movement that was raw and a little scary/alienating to the masses and redo it in a way that’s safer and more pallatable. And depending on where you’re coming from, the modernized version seems anything from annoying to amazing. I personally feel these two groundbreaking females have already been reinterpreted to death, but I’m U.S. based. There still might be some fascination for this European-based mag. The photographer for this shoot is Josh Olins and it was styled by Clare Richardson.
From Love magazine, a 60-second, high-def fashion film entitled “The Love Thing,” It’s shot by tech-loving director James Lima and styled by Love magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Katie Grand. Models include Alessandra Ambrosio, Dree Hemingway, Lindsey Wixson, Kasia Struss, Pixie Geldof, Jeneil Williams, Rasa Zukauskaite, and Agyness Deyn. Be warned, worker bees, there is mild, artsy nudity contained within.
Also featured in the famed issue 63 of V magazine, featuring women of all sizes, is Karl Lagerfeld’s editorial with burlesque dancer Coco Martini sporting Chanel Accessories , at the actual apartment of Ms. Chanel on the Rue Cambon in Paris. “When asked about why she accepted the invitation to pose for V, Miss Dirty Martini said: “Posing on the Double C’s, modeling like my life depended on it, I thought, ‘Why not? Why can’t designers make fashion that mimics the architecture of hips and busts and then choose models that wear it perfectly?’” styled by Jakob K. More view on the flip.
In these parts we’ve always believed that beautiful comes in all shapes and sizes. Nonetheless, as much as there have been shy statements towards ‘fashion for all’ or ‘embracing curves’ there are very few high fashion mags that have dared to actually feature models with plus-size curves and plain old un-retouched fat . To our surprise one of the authorities in edgy fashion, V magazine can be now counted as one of the few who dared, to show the fleshier side of womanhood.
It’s not about bashing ‘thinness’, glorifying ‘fatness’ , praising ‘curviness’ or vice versa. More than ever it’s showcasing the beauty in each individual, regardless of shape size or color.Featuring the variety we all see out there in the real world. Whether it was the outfit you wore on your first date with your cutie or the outfit your wore when you got a gig. There are these special pieces of apparel that hold sentimantal value. The October ‘09 issue of Elle Mag featured an assortment of fun fashion related stories exploring different women’s relationships with a certain piece of clothing. In comparison to this fasco, I highly enjoyed it. As the publishing world is striving to compete with digital media they have seldomely used the gems of the “ short fashion story” that we can all agree are pretty cool to read on paper. One of those stories was Samantha Bee’s Gym Clothes that had me laughing so hard I hard to share:
“One outfit perfectly encapsulated middle school for me. All the other children wore athletic garments, such as T-shirts and shorts, to gym class—we didn’t have a standard uniform, and we could wear what we wanted”…Complete story on the next page.
Solange’s new hair has generated her a ton of buzz, but my gut feeling is that the move wasn’t all that calculated on her part. It is just flat out crazy how much heat the topic of women’s hair can generate. Samson should have been a story about a woman. Anyway, go check out more images of Solange at Honey and also read the interview. That’s a solid family those Knowles.
