The lovely Lara Stone is on the cover of  The New York Times T Magazine. It seems part of the reason editors love her beside her other-worldly amazing looks is that she provides a distinct sort of canvas. Like any good model she is a chameleon, but no matter the stylist or makeup artist her persona is distinct so the challenge is revealing an as of yet unrevealed part of her psyche. It’s a quality that elevates her from just another gorgeous girl to one who has super status.

T’s cover is refreshing because it’s a take on Lara we haven’t seen yet–the effortlessly cool Downtown girl who was seemingly born with it status. Maybe she’s not photographed outside of every show wearing all the right designers for the moment, but her influence is both undeniable and considerable.

Kreayshawn (who we discover in the interview was born Natassia Zolo and whose mom is Russian–ha, shocker…not!)  is having a coming out party via a cover story in Complex magazine’s October/November issue, in a big feature called “About To Blow” that includes a photo shoot and interview. Here’s what the young lass has to say about her sudden stardom and the resulting chatter–much of it very nasty:

“People are so crazy that they’ll make their own fantasy life story of me. People have such passion loving me and such passion hating me, but it’s good to have passion either way. I never looked at myself as a marketable person. I just try to let my personality shine through. Do you think a 16-year-old girl gives a fuck about where I’m from or what I’ve done? No, she loves the songs.”

There’s a lot of interesting content and it’s definitely more revealing than a lot of bios done so far on her (apparently she’s beefing with half a dozen rappers, including Nicki Minaj!). As for what she wears in the shoot, lots of Jeremy Scott for Adidas, American Apparel and Nike, but no sign of Gucci, Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada….

Elle is featuring four models on the cover of its October issue with the theme being they all work for Victoria’s Secret. We liked this one of Chanel Iman in a Herve Leger swimsuit the best. But on another note, question: did Victoria Secret pay for this cover/product placement? It seems crazy that Elle would do this for free–especially given it’s October, which isn’t exactly know as a month when anyeone is pushing bathing suits.

It’s Lara Stone for V Magazine’s “Heroes” issue, worked on by Mario Testino and Carine Roitfeld, who used Elizabeth Taylor as the inspiration for a 72-page editorial. The images here and the ones of Stone on the next page really are lovely. The eyebrows are fantastic of course but so is her faded ginger hair, which matches her lipstick oh so perfectly, plus the diamonds and the lighting, and so on and so forth. Via Stylist.

Esquire names Rihanna the “Sexiest Woman of 2011″….though we must say on an ironic note, they managed to promote that fact with  a video that achieves the almost impossible–making Rihanna seem decidedly not sexy!

Another cover for Lady Gaga, wearing minimal makeup (all MAC cosmetics)  and a Hussein Chalayan dress in a shoot styled by Nicola Formichetti for Bazaar magazine’s October issue. Gaga is in an interesting spot it seems these days. The fashion world has grown bored with her (albeit temporarily entertained by her feud with Cathy Horyn) and all but her most dedicated Monsters seem less than impressed with her latest musical offerings. Will she find her way out of the current backlash she’s experiencing? Tough call to make, she’s quite the force, though sometimes that’s not enough.Via Bazaar.

The one-and-only Amy Winehouse receives a tribute cover from Vibe magazine.

Our awesome first lady shouts out Chicago’s South Side in an article featured in Essence’s October issue. She recently put her Double-Dutch skills on display, an ability she no doubt picked up during her days growing up in the Windy City.

I must say, sometimes I wonder how Ms. Obama would dress if she weren’t hemmed in by the dress codes of her current job. A little fiercer I’d guess.

September issues are big business in fashion media. A symbol of getting back to the grind and looking ahead at winter and holidays style  they’re an opportunity for making bold statements not to mention filling pages with lots of ads. New York Times T magazine this September features the amazing Esperanza Spalding and we’re pretty stoked about it. The idea of magazine covers with actresses, pop stars and the occasional athlete or politician is limiting when we all know there are noteworthy women of style everywhere.
