As you may have noticed, we are now showing more collections from Berlin-based designers thanks to a newly-added Berlin-based editor. Esther Perbandt is one of the Berlin designers we have been watching for a while. This week the lookbook for the Spring 2013 collection came out, presenting a sleek and clean line that doesn’t need flashy colors or patterns to stand out. As always chains are a signature design feature of the label. Soon, the label will launch its own online store. Until then you can shop Esther Perbandt at Fashionhype.
Julia Frakes is the new face of the Tomboy campaign for Autumn/Winter 2012. Shot by Maciek Kobielski and styled by Dianna Lunt, Julia is the follower of Chloe Sevigny, who stared in the Spring/Summer campaign of the brand. Again, Tomboy pesuades with contemporary and casual looks that are perfectly represented by Julia. Take a first look at the collection after the jump and get the look online from Tomboy.
Rag & Bone engaging Kate Moss for it first ad campaign ever, has no doubt greatly expanded U.S.-based brand’s name recognition, especially in Europe. Judging from the the beautiful collection it is showing for Resort 2013, that growth momentum will continue. Theme include leather, military green, gold lame, tone-on-tone flower prints, all combined create a city chic look that is oh-so au courant. The leather dress and the boots for me is a standout.
After The Kooples yesterday, today I’d like to introduce another French label which has its roots in Paris. After several collaborations with f.e. Les Putafranges for colette and Francoise Hardy, in Europe Maje is already known for it’s clean feminine silhouettes that exude glamour with edge. For the Autumn 2012 collection the brand tapped the wonderful Alexa Chung, who is a big fan of the brand and, aptly represents the 60s-inspired look and femininity of the campaign. Photographed by Glen Luchford we see Chung in the Parisian Metro, maintaining the lightly, dreamy look that makes her a muse magnifique.
One of my favourite Parisian labels The Kooples just released its lookbook for Autumn 2012. For its campaigns the brand always manages to land some of the hottest “Kooples” of the moment. This season we see André Saraiva and Annabelle Dexter Jones, Devendra Banhart and Ana Kras, DJs Leigh Lezark, Randy D’Amico and Jamie Burke together with Mila de Wit. With its mix of New Yorkian rock and Pariasian chic the brand manages to create a certain je ne sais quoi attitude. Especially in Paris, the hipsters try hard to be as Kooples as possible. And no wonder, looking at the couples featured in the campaign, they all seem to reflect 100 percent the image the brand wants to radiate. Well done!
Ah, now we know why J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons has been hanging so hard with Brooklyn resident Solange Knowles, no doubt they’ve been plotting Knowles’ new role as face of the company’s Madewell format. She’s shown in the video modeling Autumn 2013 looks with a promise of “even more” to come September 4th. Over at Racked, where we spotted this, we read that the campaign is being rolled out in conjunction with the chain’s plan to add an additional 15 doors this year. Fashion savvy college girls nationwide will rejoice.
One of Berlin’s upcoming young designers, Laos-born Hien Le, showed his debut collection for Spring 2011 during Berlin Fashion Week in Summer 2010, an effort that earned him the title of “Best Newcomer” by Sportswear International magazine. So for those of you who haven’t caught wind of him, have a look at his fashion genius as presented in his beautiful collection for Spring 2013.
For the collection Le took inspiration from the style-setting tv series Miami Vice, with an overall look that is clean and and harmonious with a pastel-colored palette set off by Miami-friendly flamingo prints. This is what we want this summer! The Hien Le collection is currently available at Voo Store Berlin, Croon a Song in Tokyo and online at Farfetch.com.
Zara pulled out all the stops with two Autumn 2012 lookbook, one featuring Freja Beha Erichsen and the other Cara Delevingne for the chain’s TRF line, geared to a younger customer. Both campaigns are shot in black and white with a major focus on the mood. The result are great photo campaigns and two beautiful videos. Enjoy!
London-based Made in Heaven jeans started as a local shop in Chelsea, and over the course of 40 years the brand’s reputation for quality denim has spread far behind its island shores. In its Pre-Autumn 2012 look, images project Made in Heaven signature personality: sexy and fierce yet still full of ease. Shot by Oskar Gyllenswärd, model Naomi Preizler speaks to a modern-day Patti Smith. The collection is now available in stores and online.
While I am still gladly wearing chancletas, I’m mindful that with all things light and summery, eventually winter will come. And while the thought of cold weather does not make me necessarily rejoice, the bold structural looks Anne Sofie Madsen is offering for fall at least take some of the pain away. Allowing us to unleash our inner godess/super hero, this collection is inspired by Sedna, a half skeleton, half human Inuit goddess of the underworld. Need I say more?
