We showed some of our favorite items from Dior’s Couture runway for Spring 2013, and here’s a closeup on the hair & make up. Pixie cuts & jeweled lips–tres gamine! But I’m wondering as I look at this pics, to all our readers who are hair experts—are the models in wigs?? If yes, how on earth did they achieve such a natural look?

Natural hair in the case of women of African descent when it’s not chemically straightened  comes in all varieties of curl patterns, textures ect. And depending on where you are in the world,  you either grew up loving it not thinking much about it or, maybe you experienced the need to wear it straight. We’re not getting into the debate of straight versus natural because that is an individual choice. What we do have to highlight is that there was a time not too long ago where very few , if any women of color were seen in the spotlight rocking their natural  curly/kinky hair.

While we love the sight of Solange Knowles, Esperanza Spalding, Macy Gray to name a few , think of how many times you’ve seen a big afro, in a courtroom, on a high level executive board or on a fortune 500 CEO? All this means is that minds have to get open a lot more for these occurrences to be commonplace and, mostly there cannot be debates on  texture decorum .Who made us judges of what another woman’s hair texture should look like? Move forward and style your fabulous hair  the way you want. #enough.

A few hours ago Rihanna posted this picture on twitter and of course we’re curious. If this is actually a look she’s rocking we know she’ll be able to pull it off.

As we mentioned in the last post on the Golden Globe Awards, there is much more to be found when focusing on the closeups rather than just the wide angle dress shot. Last post we looked at accessories, and in this post we look at hair and makeup. The reoccuring theme this year was soft updos, subdued shades of lipstick, upper-lid eyeliner with eyebrows often the biggest statement maker on the face.  Earrings were usually lightweight and small and necklaces were often absent altogether.

Fashion vlogger Taren Guy dedicates an episode to showcasing some of accessory designer Melody Ehsani’s big bold earrings. Hard to believe I am just now discovering the ultra-adorable Guy, who has been vlogging on Youtube as Taren916 for two years! (People, you gotta let us know!) According to a bio featured on beauty company Carol’s Daughter, she started out “dedicated to documenting her own natural hair journey,” and now covers the gamut in beauty and fashion trends.
