Need an Obama tee-shirt refesh? Vogue editor Anna Wintour came up with the clever plan to raise money for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign by asking her designer pals to come up with a lower-than-normally-priced tee-shirt (or tote bag, or scarf) to be sold on a sub-section of Obama’s campaign site, called Runway To Win. And they all come in a full range of sizes….imagine that, a Marc Jacobs tee in XXXL!
Featured designers include Marc Jacobs, Joseph Altuzurra, Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Grunung, Tracy Reese (above), and others, with Alexander Wang’s ”coming soon.”
Prada is one of those brands that doesn’t necessarily reveal itself on the runway. It best trends to emerge with the season. Still, the show seemed to get better as it went on, in part because the emergence of minimalist looks, which is looking like a Spring 2011 trend of some import, is really sticking in my throat.
Nicole and Natalie, the two gorgeous hermanas who make up Nina Sky take a trip to Frank’s Chop in this video for a quick trim and to provide some teaser info on an upcoming charity event for Locks of Love. Seriously though, they are both so New York City girl adorable that if you’re looking for a cheer-up this morn, this video is it.
Eviana Hartman’s Bodkin is one of those labels, which is a great example of sustainable , simple fashion with an edge. We had to give you a more detailed look at her flawless twister dress on the flip. Available at Maryamnassirzadeh,
We stumbled on this marvelous boutique while strolling in Sag harbor this past weeek-end and had to share it with you. Based on the concept of holistic living, WellNest, a newly-opened store, features in-house wellness products by Dr. Richard Ash, cold pressed juices by Organic Avenue (too delicious for words) , eco-friendly house wares and, Le Labo fragrances and accessories! We could not stop fiending over October Anniversary chunky rings, Catherine Michiels bracelets, lovely frames by Urban Spectacles and many more other eco conscious brands. The setting is modern, minimal, rustic and cozy at the same time, and once you walk in, you find it very hard to leave… On the next page a few images by Racked that are much better than the ones we took.
Fresh off an airport fall that racheted up comments about statement-making outfits, which are increasingly being viewed with impatience among pop culture watchers, Lady Gaga made an apperance at Elton John’s White Tie & Tiara event, which raises funds for John’s AIDS foundation. Right now she’s all about the bikini, which might not be as influential as was the body suit she helped bring to prominence, but the look has the potential to translate with the bikini top functioning as a bra. We’ll see. In the meantime today is Gay Pride Day, which of course HS wholeheartedly supports After all, besides the very important issue of equality, how not fierce would fashion be without its very gay foundation.
Recently spotted, Yana Handbags’ irresistible “Muse” collection accessories made in collaboration with Jewellery by Gina Valdez on NJAL . All the chains on the bags are actual wearable pieces of jewellery, while each bag is made from re-purposed leather, making them eco-friendly and all the more HighSnobette worthy. A closer look at the beauties on the next page. Available at Notjustalabel.
Just in from Nau, the Grant for Change ( G4C) highlighting efforts of those who move in the spirit of the Nau Collective: Athletes, Artists, and Activists challenging assumptions about what it means to move, be moved, and move others.
Design as a tool for positive change applies to many sectors. Examples include but are not limited to: architecture, energy, graphic Design + multimedia communication, performance, product + industrial design, transportation, urban planning and visual arts.
If you think this grant’s for you, you can nominate yourself. If it suits a colleague or a friend, you can nominate them, too (and nominate as many as you’d like). And if you simply can’t decide, then skip the nomination, and just vote. Have a look at the other nominees. See what designers are doing across the country, or in your own backyard. Lady GaGa appeared at Mac Viva Glam event in London yesterday. I like the outfit because it’s a GaGa classic, in that it includes three looks she has really pushed to the forefront of edgy fashion: the bodysuit, eye mask and (though it’s to a lesser degree), shoulder pads. She and Sharon Osbourne were both there as part of their efforts to help raise money for the MAC AIDS fund.
Images from Wire. More of Lady GaGa, including close-ups on her accessories and shoes, after the flip.
Barneys Japan is teaming up with British model Agyness Deyn to create a collection of 11 items–dresses, knits, scarves, tee-shirts and leggings. They’ll retail from 18,900 to 27,300 yen (aka, $212-$307). The collection launches in Barneys’ new store in Kobe on Friday, and proceeds will go…and this is an interesting one…to planting trees in inner Mongolia. Interesting! As for the images WWD included with the article, I mean wow, it’s almost like someone was trying to make them look like leftovers from a Forever21 sale.
