London based Lu Flux presents their spring 2011 collection of eco- luxury apparel in a beautifully illustrated look book by Neil O’driscoll, introduced by equally enchanting short film.Definitely a lookbook we would not mind holding on to. View on the next page. images courtesy of Lu Flux.
Inspired by her father’s love of global craftsmanship, Miuccia Prada launches a series of “Prada Made in…” projects, for which items are created using artisan expertise from all over the world. Now, Prada did not go as far as A Peace Treaty in naming each product after the artisan who actually sewed it, but did create special labels that honor each country. Of course the Snobettes applaud theconcept of highlighting well made apparel and accessories in a world where fast and mass tend to prevail. On the next page a look at the workmanship from India, Scotland, Peru and Japan. Click on each picture to learn more about each artisan expertise. Images courtesy of Prada.
October is GLTB history month and Swedish Hasbeens desingers Cilla Wingard and Emy Bixt have designed a hand-made, rainbow-striped (one also in black and white) knee-high boot in honor of the event. All proceeds will be donated to GLAAD. See a pic of Bixt sporting a pair after the flip. Available now at the Hasbeens site. And yep, it ships worldwide.
Featured earlier this year, A Peace Treaty’s Pitañia collection of luxurious hand-knitted Alpaca knitwear made by Aymara and Quechua artisans are now available here. We say invest in the real deal, accept no substitutes!
There are a slew of trade shows going on in New York City right now and yesterday we stopped by Capsule, which highlights up-and-coming brands with an edge, a look which is right up our alley. First stop was A Peace Treaty, who we love and whose scarves we have featured repeatedly. What you’re looking at on this page is its second jewellery collection and it couldn’t be more pitch perfect for right now…the right balance of exotic, earthy and yet still very fierce. Extreme luv, needless to say. More images of necklaces and bracelets after the flip.
I could not ignore the huge hole that is missing at London Fashion Week and that is Alexander McQueen. Even though McQueen had not attended London Fashion Week since 2001, knowing that he would never design another collection is truly a huge loss for the creative industry. Stars including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Anna Wintour and Bjork (who also performed) paid a special tribute to McQueen at a special one hour ceremony at St.Pauls Cathedral, London. I think the video tribute sums up the awe-inspiring, determined, outlandish genius that was McQueen. AK.
In conjunction with Fashion Night Out, Dolce & Gabbana are making a bunch of limited edition tees featuring Naomi as photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, David LaChapelle, etc, etc, basically all the greats. Naomi will be signing the tees (though I’d rather she signed my Blackberry) at the Dolce & Gabbana store on Madison Avenue. Then the tees will be rolled out to D&G stores worldwide, with proceeds going to Naomi’s fave legal-defense-fund, I mean charity. And like I said last week, I’m finding myself more than ever overwhelmed by this stupid “FNO” event! Next year, I guarantee, Wal-mart, Payless and all that ilk will be in on it, too, and it’s going to be one giant, meaningless mess, which it sort of is already. Via Thelifefiles (Note to Lifefiles staffers: see how easy it is to credit sites you get material from??)
From the ultimate in classy, Trussardi tweeted a peak at its offering for Fashion Night Out, which, I know it’s supposed to be an exciting, great event for the industry, but I’m finding the blur of activities and offerings sort of overwhelming!
A collaboration between Cynthia Rowley and Band-Aids, called “Dress-Up Band-Aids” is such a cute concept, it’s hard to believe that it hasn’t been done before! One dollar out of the ten charged for the box will go to Rowley’s pet charity, Design Ignites Change, which encourages students to make social change in their communities via design. We found this at Sliceofstyle and you can buy the actual Band-Aids at Rowley’s site. Perfect for new-shoe blisters, no?
Originating in the Andes Mountains’ Altiplano region of Bolivia and Peru, A Peace Treaty’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection, titled “Pitañia” is a collection of pieces that are meticulously hand-knitted by Aymara and Quechua indigenous artisans using the finest fibers and ancient irreplaceable traditions. Enjoy a look at our favorite pieces on the next page.
