LAST LOOK Reykjavik Fashion Festival By Jules Kim & Alessandro Simonetti

26 March 2013, 19.16 | Posted in Fashion, editorial | 4 comments »

fashion week reykjavik

The LAST LOOK from a fashion runway show dictates the designer’s aesthetic and overall direction for the season. During the Reykjavik Fashion Festival, a forum created to nurture and celebrate the Icelandic fashion industry, seven juried designers showcased their collections amongst a sea of editors, buyers, and fashionistas.

Most nations build a fashion week to be accepted into a global spectrum of heels, makeup and models; yet RFF has taken a more innocent and raw approach to their platform. They would have to, considering their country’s landscape and whimsical weather patterns. A common thread shared by all of the brands featured was not only their ancestry, but their passion to participate and reveal the tenderness of the opportunity itself. There was a heartfelt excitement backstage that not even Paris or New York Fashion Weeks could match. These organizations are already tried and true with nothing to prove but diligence. The energy is not new and authentic; it is jaded and tense. Iceland’s backstage was like starting over again, complete with newbie dressers and fledgling models, yet there was an authenticity that with the help of producers from Heidelberg’s Atelier Kontrast (http://www.atelierkontrast.com/), made for a memorable and dignified event. When we become absorbed by the Who, What, and Wears (pun intended), let’s not forget about Why?

The following posts define each designers’ LAST LOOK from each collection at RFF. The runway ranged from feminine and delicate to unisex goth styles. The briefs to follow are straight from each brand/designer’s own unique ethos. It would not seem quite fair to reinterpret their own intentions in my words.-JulesKim.

This particular image is shot in black and white but the rest of the editorial is  in color. See it here.
