Lois & Samia Launching New Site

To all our readers however new or old:

First off, thank you so much for your support over the years! Without you we really are nothing.  Second, we want to thank David Fisher, the founder of HighSnobiety and Titel Media head honcho who gave us this opportunity to connect with all of you in the first place. Long before anyone he saw the vision in having a women’s fashion site with a street-edge theme.

But most of all we are so excited to announce that we are on the move and going independent!! Our new site is currently being designed and we don’t want to give out the new url just yet, but you can start following us on our new (under construction) Facebook page to stay updated on the latest, including all our posts as we begin the transition.

The theme remains the same, coverage of fashion that speaks to women who want to celebrate their badass, multi-faceted nature and yep, are as comfortable in pair of Louboutin heels as Nike kicks. As always we will cheer loudest for the indie females doing it for themselves and consider it part of our mission to reach out a helping hand to them whenever possible. And we while we may stumble and are lifelong learners ourselves, we staunchly believe love & a positive approach conquer all, yes, even in the world of fashion.

I had to share with you Diane Pernet’s op-ed piece on fashion critics called, “Who Watches the Watchmen,” from the blog, The Business of Fashion. Pernet covers lots of ground like the relationship between advertising and editorial coverage:

“It is no wonder that most ‘critics’ are not critics, but just give a report of what goes down the runway, without voicing any real opinion. It is also no secret that for more than the past decade, editorials have been ruled by advertisers. You place an ad, you get an editorial page, and if the advertiser does not get proper coverage, they pick up the phone and demand editorial coverage or they will pull their money. So, can you really expect a critic for a publication that thrives on that ad money to say that the Chanel or the Louis Vuitton show was crap? Not likely.”

Pernet concludes with her appreciation of bloggers, another reason why the woman is a #Boss:

“I find it amusing the way so many seasoned journalists are still threatened by bloggers. The bloggers are not masquerading as mature journalists. They are more like consumers excited to find themselves suddenly given access to the shows and along with that, a certain degree of credibility. The ones that write their content based on who is paying the bills are no better/or worse than the magazines that only report on their advertisers.”

Carine Roitfeld As The New Global Fashion Director For Harper’s Bazaar

Carine Roitfeld  has recently been tapped as the global fashion direction for Harper’s Bazaar. She was recently interviewed by Town and Country’s Jay Fielden about her new role, her view of fashion and much more. Enjoy the video preview of the interview and my favorite quote of Carine as she discusses what she sees as the main difference between editorials in France and in the The U.S:

In France we don’t have so many celebrities like you have here. So we push a lot of models and when you’re working with models it’s easy to push fashion. You can do what you want. You don’t have so many publicists and people between you and the star.…
So maybe I’m French. I was raised with Guy Bourdin. For me it’s very normal. Even if a girl was totally naked she was never vulgar. There was a sense of chic. It wasn’t porno chic. When you go to America you have to think a bit different. So, no pussy there.

In a nutshell: NY Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn didn’t get invited to the Saint Laurent show held this week during Paris Fashion Week, subsequently she blew up the situation in her column, and then proceeded to blast the collection down to the ground. Apparently there is old beef between Horyn and newly-installed Saint Laurent designer, Hedi Sliman, so the lack of invite was not accidental. Slimane today responded with a Twitter letter (shown above) addressing Horyn. It reads:

Miss Horyn is a schoolyard bully and also a little bit of a stand-up comedian.
Insiders argue she is an average writer, and a bit provincial, but I disagree, she did some great things. Her biggest achievement so far is a book about Bill Blass, that I haven’t read. It might be terrific, and I’ll be happy to recommend it, if it helps the sales.
I also often hear that her sense of style is seriously challenged, providing that she is meant to be an authority in the village. This is totally irrelevant, no one has ever asked for her to be an inspiration to others after all, and likely it would never happen anyway.
Besides, and amusingly, her agenda is seriously thick and perfectly predictable. She is a woman on a mission, and this season she is on fire.
Miss Horyn also works for the New York Times, as everyone knows, where conflicts of interest might seem a little out of place and where being partial, or too friendly with the locals might not be an option.
In conclusion, and as far as I’m concerned, she will never get a seat at Saint Laurent, but might get 2 for 1 at Dior. She should rejoice. I don’t mind critics, but they have to come from a fashion critic, not a publicist in disguise. I am quite mesmerized she did get away with it for so many years.

And now Horyn has volleyed back, saying, “It’s just silly nonsense.” Well now that’s what you say! On the one hand I’m clapping my hands with glee as I plow through the popcorn, but on the other I’m thinking despite the old adage about any publicity, this is not a good look for either party.

Parisian editor Carine Roitfeld chooses Kate Upton as photographed by Bruce Weber to cover the first issue of CR Fashion Book, which hits newstands September 13th. The theme of this issue is rebirth, thus the chicks, along with interior editorials featuring Roitfeld’s pregnant daughter. Upton as a cover choice has Roitfeld’s love of the contrarian viewpoint written all over it (as of late the model’s worthiness as anything more than a pin-up girl has been hotly debated), not to mention her appreciation for cleavage shots. On another note, one thing that’s really adorable about this image is Upton’s full-on girly grin, you really get the impression she is genuinely tickled by the handful of chicks she’s been tasked with holding. What a great trick to illicit a genuinely happy face.
