Converse flag 1 Converse Chuck Taylor Country Collection

Had designers not come up with special Olympic mames collections, I’m not sure Iwould have realized the games in London started today. If you haven’t found your favorite 2012 Olympics outfit yet, Converse just launched at retail a limited edition “Country” collection of flag-inspired kicks. Check out the Italy, China, Jamaica, United States, U.K. and Germany styles, inspired by colors and imagery associated with each country. Obviously the sneakers can still be worn post-Olympics. The collection arrived in stores this week and also is available online.

Check all styles after the jump.

Sacai Autumn Winter 2012

SacaiSS2012 370x540 Sacai Autumn Winter 2012

The Sacai presentation for Autumn/Winter 2012 was postponed for a few days after receiving an offer to exhibit as part of the officially sanctioned Paris Fashion Week. The new exhibition space at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris was quickly packed with internationally renown editors and tastemakers that one would expect at a major house label show. For a small brand like Sacai, the attendance spoke to the growing strength of what is not just a new label, but one that has transformed into a money making powerhouse for the stores that carry it.

The collection was a similar example of the way Sacai makes complicated pieces easy to wear through execution and proportion. As Paris was heavy with menswear inspired collections, Sacai used traditional suiting fabrics and dolled them up by attaching pleated skirts with heavy hems to weigh down the light chiffon. A three-dimensional look is always included with any Sacai purchase; a shirt dress which reads plain in front reveals a contrast knit back-panel and permanent pleat skirt. Major crowd-pleasers were the bomber jackets and argyles that had been injected with feminine cascades. A piece that is gaurenteed to fly off the rack is a knit blazer with interior black ruffles in shirting fabric as well as a simple tee shirt with attached silk wrap skirt. Sacai is strongest when the items are readable and easy, this collection continued the progress that was made in Spring Summer 2012. All Items available at Riccardi in August 2012. J.W. Anderson Spring 2012

27 March 2012, 16.40 | Posted in collection | No comments »

JWAnderson 378x540 J.W. Anderson Spring 2012

U.K. designer J.W. Anderson’s artisanal irreverence has made his London Fashion Week
presentation one of the main events of the season. The two-arm skirt has almost become passé as the entry point for avant gaurd design- Comme, Yohji, Galliano, and Gautier have blazed that trail long before Anderson took his stab at the now iconic design. What is special about Anderson’s version is the label brings the look to a more modern and digestible arena with a slim silhouette and astonishing craftsmanship.  The leather chain mail additions are all made in-house, by hand in London. The results are stunning…odd and somewhat laid back.

On-trend pieces complete with raffia detail come out great when mixed with neoprene and tropical weight wool. A companion dress snaps through the center of a molded form that begged for the attached pleated skirt in the back. Blown up paisleys and other festive roadrunner prints serve to the comedy/humor of the clothing especially when paired with the accompanying trousers. All copy and images by Joseph Morrissey.

Video: Sarah Scott ‘Stranger I Came’ Autumn/Winter 2012

22 March 2012, 19.14 | Posted in Fashion, Film, collection | No comments »

Have a look at Sarah Scott’s Autumn 2012 collection film, titled ”Stranger I Came”:

Inspired by Sarah Scott’s Grandmother’s autobiography, “A Stranger I Came,” written in 1953 about her transition from Berlin to New York. The story of her Grandmother is much like that of any modern woman of her time or ours–acclimating into American society while maintaining a sense of self.

Chic apparel perfectly appropriate for the fast city life, Sarah Scott, which we previewed earlier this year, is definitely Snobette approved.Enjoy!

Opening Ceremony x Chloe Sevigny x Vision Street Wear

OCChloeSevignyVision 360x540 Opening Ceremony x Chloe Sevigny x Vision Street Wear

Opening Ceremony provides the fertile grounds for Chloe Sevigny to create her fourth collection with the boutique chain, and this time she turns to Vision Street Wear, a skate label she cut her teeth on in her early days on the New York scene, to inspire offerings that include tops, cycling shorts, platform sneakers and other ’90s whatnot. Like her other OC collabos at first glance this collection comes off a bit awkward and perhaps overly ironic, but if history repeats itself six months from now we’ll bet it’ll look perfectly awesome and on point.

Proenza Schouler Pre-Autumn 2012

16 December 2011, 17.32 | Posted in collection | 2 comments »

ProenzaSchouler2012 (16)

It was revealed earlier today that Proenza Schouler is in search of real estate for its first store, with a Madison Avenue location in Manhattan, as one the label is zeroing in on. Kind of makes sense that the designers behind the label, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, would choose an uptown over downtown location for their first store. Proenza Schouler has always had that ladies who lunch gone naughty feel to it, not unlike their muse-ish pal, Chloe Sevigny, who traded her classy Connecticut possibilities for a much more tangled path but is still able to navigate the poshiest of events and people with ease. All of which leap to mind upon viewing Proenza’s Pre-Autumn 2012 collection. If last season the label went a bit further below 14th Street (heck even ventured into Williamsburg!) than it normally does with its ode to Navajo, with Pre-Autumn it returns home with a collection worthy of inspiring  roots.
