A rep for Kanye West has confirmed to WWD he will show again during Paris Fashion Week on March 6t at 9:30pm. Reviews for his first show were mixed (and in some cases a bit over the top in their zealous meanness), but this is what happens when a celebrity attempts to do things for which s/he is not known. We like creativity combined with fearlessness so naturally we are fans of Kanye, making us team #rooting4dw to make it in the fashion world.
One month after the birth of Blue Ivy, Beyonce makes her first public appearance, in support of her husband Jay Z’s Carnegie Hall benefit show, last night in New York. She chose an Alice Temperley dress, an Alexander McQueen clutch and Loubies. Not that we endorse this or think it’s anything short of nutsville, but since it’s inevitable….let the trash talk over whether or not she looks like she was ever pregnant begin!
See a close up of her bright blue mani and clutch on the next page.
Watch as Giselle gets heckled by Giants fans in the video above as she leaves the stadium after yesterday’s Superbowl. In the video you can hear her say, “My husband cannot fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time,” referring to her husband Tom Brady’s passes dropped by New England Patriots receivers.
First impression–even just being a regular person she stands out as really tall and oh-so-striking with her long, sexy hair. Second: I love her unfilteredness (see prior quotes on breastfeeding and sunscreen) in general and here it’s expressed in the form of loyalty–a trait that wins her bonus points with me. Third: But she shouldn’t blame Tommy’s teammates, that may be okay in the me-me-me world of supermodels but in sports it is often said there is no “I” in team. And finally, I feel for her having to deal with sports fans and their often extra-mean-for-the-fun-of-it, anti-female, fashion and foreigner mentality. Check any of the comments sections for this story elsewhere and they are awful. I always think the fashion industry is cold-hearted, but it’s a fluff ball compared to sports.
The fashion world was buzzing over the Givenchy fashion featured in Madonna’s half time performance for the Super Bowl. M.I.A. also rang up some attention-seeking points when she gave the finger (see image on next page) and sang, “I don’t give a shit,” at the end of her performance. They’ll be speculaton on whether or not that was planned mutually by all, though kind of doubtful given the negative career trajectory of the last performer who chose to go off script. Much more likely that as of now M.I.A. has been unfriended by Madonna to the outer stratospheres for deciding to freelance.
As for the performance itself, the sound was horrible for the first third and Madonna seemed stiff and not her usual confidenct self for a lot of the performance. And then, too, the game itself, featuring the Patriots versus the Giants was very exciting and close at halftime so even at its best the performance couldn’t compete and felt like a bit of an annoying disruption.
Oh the power of being Madonna! She actually manages to make Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. two of the brattiest most headstrong performers in the industry, fall back and tow her line as perfectly well-behaved back-up singers/dancers. Not Mo’s most compelling work by a longshot, looks more like a promo ad for the Superbowl, but it’s fun to watch just to see the three pop-stars all together.
The other night on the phone talking sports, I mentioned a college basketball coach to my Dad, who told me he didn’t like the guy. Why? No rational reason, he said, just didn’t like him. And he laughed. Same for me and Gwyneth. She still bugs me after all these years. And for no great reason. My latest irritation? That she has to name drop Beyonce or Jay-Z or both(!) in every interview she gives. As if that’s gonna help her p.r. issues!
That’s the subsriber’s cover for Paltrow’s Bazaar cover above–I guess everything in fashion is going minimalist. See the newstand one and a few more images on the next page. Via Bazaar where you can read all about how her kids are fluent in Spanish cuz their first nanny was Spanish. Ugh.
Continually expanding their empire, the Kardashians launch a denim line at Sears with each style named the ‘Kim,” “Kourtney” and “Khloe.” Interstingly enough while we received the release of the collection today the denim now available at retail is already marked down here. With a single called “Bad Girls,” produced by Danja, its M.I.A.’s first big marketing push since the days of the sweet potato truffled-flavored fries scandal. Above is the track as originally released in an M.I.A. mix tape called Vicki Leekx. To hear the current Danja-produced version click here.
In other news we’ll see a video for the single by director Romain Gavras this Friday, February 3rd. It’s all a lead up to the release of Ms. Arulpragasam’s fourth album, which we’ll see sometime in the summer months.
Rumors also are flying that M.I.A. may appear with Madonna during her Super Bowl halftime show to perform their collaborative single, “Give Me All Your Luvin.” It’s interesting to think about, but in reality the halftime shows seem to inevitably fall so flat partially because there’s this sense that no one is REALLY paying attention (which is because they’re not).
