Parisian editor Carine Roitfeld chooses Kate Upton as photographed by Bruce Weber to cover the first issue of CR Fashion Book, which hits newstands September 13th. The theme of this issue is rebirth, thus the chicks, along with interior editorials featuring Roitfeld’s pregnant daughter. Upton as a cover choice has Roitfeld’s love of the contrarian viewpoint written all over it (as of late the model’s worthiness as anything more than a pin-up girl has been hotly debated), not to mention her appreciation for cleavage shots. On another note, one thing that’s really adorable about this image is Upton’s full-on girly grin, you really get the impression she is genuinely tickled by the handful of chicks she’s been tasked with holding. What a great trick to illicit a genuinely happy face.

In a cover story, British author Zadie Smith sits down to eat with Jay-Z and interviews him for T magazine’s men’s issue for autumn. We learn he’s a fan of “chicken parm,” and also that he realizes that for four-month-old daughter, Blue Ivy, growing up in TriBeCa rather than Bed Stuy will create a very different set of demands. According to the article:

At the last minute, I remembered to ask after his family, “Oh, my family’s amazing.” And the baby? “She’s four months.” Marcy raised me, and whether right or wrong/Streets gave me all I write in the song. But what will TriBeCa give Blue? “I actually thought about that more before she was born. Once she got here I’ve been in shock until maybe last week?” Her childhood won’t be like his, and this fact he takes in his stride. “We would fight each other. My brother would beat me up,” he says, but it was all in preparation for the outside. “I was going to have to fight, I was going to have to go through some things, and they were preparing me.” He smiles: “She doesn’t have to be tough. She has to love herself, she has to know who she is, she has to be respectful, and be a moral person.” It’s a new day.

Michelle Obama flashed her famously toned arms in a shimmery pink Tracey Reese dress she wore for her very well received Democratic National Convention speech last night in Charlotte, North Carolina. On the way to a party last night for designer Leah McSweeney and writer Cat Marnell (happy birthday to both of you!), my co-editor, SGP, speculated the dress might be J.Crew. She wasn’t far off, Obama’s pumps were J.Crew pink “Everly” pumps, available now for $245. (You know Jenna Lyons & co. are high-fiving their asses off this morning!) The fashion conscious Obama also gave a nod to the nail art trend wearing a grey shade of purple.

Rihanna’s departs London, and heads to Paris by train, looking oh-so-chic in white Manolo Blahnik “BB” pumps (quite the item among celebs these days, though the white color is one of Rihanna’s signatures), an Etoile Isabel Marant army jacket and her much-adored Gucci “USA GG” flag-themed Boston bag. It’s very similar in silhoutte anyway to the LV Stephen Sprouse bag she carried all the time a year or so back so this must be a shape that works for her. And apparently when she got to Paris, there was quite the melee, brought on by fans who were awaiting her arrival.

Just ’cause Solange’s status as a fashionable, Ft. Greene, Brooklyn it girl is in full bloom and paying returns, you didn’t think she was going to put down her music aspirations, now did you? Nope, in fact she is right now in Cape Town, South Africa, filming the video to an upcoming single, titled, “Losing You.” An album will follow, the third for Solange, who has song writing credits including “Get Me Bodied” and Upgrade U,” written for her sister, Beyonce. While working on the video, Solange is also shooting for an editorial in an upcoming issue of Elle magazine. Lady Dior icon Marion Cotillard stars in a new web documentary series for the French luxury brand. In seven episodes the documentary gives exclusive insights into the Dior universe, showing iconic codes of the house and peeks at the ateliers. A new episode will be published every two weeks through December on Diormag.

The Del Rey handbag line of British lifestyle brand Mulberry already reached an iconic status. With the release of three new color options, gold-metallic snake, ink-blue sparkle croc, and bark-brown metallic fur print, the brand also published a video showing us what it takes to craft the handbags.

The bags will arrive in stores very soon. While waiting for the release, enjoy anticipation by watching the video featuring Lana’s “Summertime Sadness”.

During her “Born This Way Ball” European tour, Lady Gaga met up with Terry Richardson for a photoshoot in the city centre of Helsinki. Gaga is wearing a black feathery crow-like robe by Charles de Castelbajac and poses in front of a Chanel store. Afterwards Terry attended the concert and documented Gaga and her Little Monsters at the show and backstage for his blog.
