Inspired by his role as musical consultant for the Oscars, the New York Times examines Pharrell Williams’  love of fashion by having him keep a diary on his wardrobe choices. Their influenced in part by his residence in Miami, not to mention his desire to promote his own brand, Billionare Boys Club. Here is his entry for February 19th, centered around rehearsals for the Oscars in Los Angeles:

“Day 2 of rehearsals at Capitol Records. Still can’t believe that I have the opportunity to be involved. Hans and I collaborated, but it’s mainly his world, which is like a university. I’m just lucky that I got a full scholarship. Wore my default outfit: a Billionaire Boys Club white V-neck shirt, blue jeans, black N.E.R.D. logo skullcap, Junya Watanabe black leather jacket and the Timbs with red laces. Tied a gray and red flannel shirt around my waist. Grunge, baby!’

In a great blend of high and low, Pharrell additionally mentions  his friend Nigo’s label Human Made, Levi’s, Timberland, Chanel, Gap, Junya Watanabe, Mark McNairy, Converse, Hermes, Ralph Lauren, plus Spongebob Toe sox and Mickey Mouse slippers!

Parisian actress/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg for the cover of WSJ’s Spring fashion issue. From an interview, Gainsbourg give her thoughts on style:

“Style for me is a casual way of putting something on. It’s not thought out but needs to suit your way of life. Now I like wearing the same sweater over and over again, then taking it off when it’s smelly.”

Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def dismantles Jay’s Z and Kanye’s West’s “Niggas In Paris,” with his own version, “Niggas In Poorest,” which calls into question the thin air environment the duo not only enhabit but celebrate.

It’s the first release of a project called “Top 40 Underdog,” for which Bey will reinterpret (and probably adding heaps doses of consciousness) to hiphop hits of his choosing. Best line from “Niggas In Poorest”? “What the f*** is Margiela??” + his exhortation, “Don’t get caught up in no throne,” (complete w Beyonce sample) played against compelling imagery of powerful but failed leaders.

Another item to drive the #kanyemakesmeangry folks nuts, he’s featured in an editorial with “it” designer Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy in Vogue’s March issue. In other fashion news, he was spotted in the TopShop offices this morning so perhaps a collabo is in the queue? The talk has been swirling on that one for a minute but his presence in corporate firms up the rumor a bit. And then of course there’s his next collection to be shown during Paris Fashion Week on March 6th.

Very random but this clip from Twilight I love. It’s a scene in which Rosalie explains to Bella how the path she’s taken is mistaken. It’s fun to watch if only to ponder the idea of choice and making “bad” decisions. It’s lept to mind lately when reading the non-stop rumors of Rihanna reuniting with that ex of hers and even more chatter he’s going to participate on her next single, “Birthday Cake.” Youth should include a good amount of “choosing wrong” and the pain and pleasure that comes from falling, but damned if this one isn’t a stomach turner for all of us on the outside looking in if it turns out to be true.
