ASAPComplexA 540x360 ASAP Rocky Cover Of Complex December 2012

A$AP Rocky grabs the cover of Complex magazine’s December 2012 issue, and chats about the imminent launch of his long-awaited album, Live.Love.A$AP.  The article includes a q&a in which Rocky, aka Rakim Mayers, discusses the changes that have come with fame, including some painful losses (which sorry but he had to be THE only one surprised by betrayal of a crew member! I mean that kind of thing is biblical).

Complex: What’s changed the most in the past year for you? Rocky: I had a lot of close friends stab me in the back for their own greedy desires. I never saw that coming. I never thought my real niggas would be on some fuck shit with me, and do wack shit. I’m a good nigga, and a lot of people fuck with me and then leave with these accusations trying to fuck up what I worked hard for.

He also brings a little fire by stating flat out that Kanye’s fashion is influenced by him.

Complex: Do you think you’re influencing people like Kanye? Rocky: Of course. That’s obvious. [Laughs.] We’re all in the same circle. He’s way richer than me, but of course he’s influenced by me. C’mon, bro. I made waxed denim cool in hip-hop. Fucking waxed denim and rips in jeans. Nobody else did that. I don’t give a fuck. I didn’t know what I was doing. These jeans are Balmain, and I wear them with a Supreme jacket. Of course I’m influencing.

Beyonce Adds Instagram

BeyonceInstagram Beyonce Adds Instagram

Beyonce has added Instagram onto her Tumblr account as a way to stay in touch with her fans. The image above was her first. It’s interesting that her handle is “BaddieBey.” I’ve been obsessing over the election and suffering from post-Sandy discombobulation so not so up on things, but have folk observed that Bee’s handle is strangely similar to Rihanna’s “Badgirlriri”? Someone has I am sure, there is no way the internets let that one pass.

Luv the tee, btw. And even more luuuuuv that Beyonce got her man in the White House–Barack Hussein Obama. How happy am I? So happy that I am just now starting to recover from last night’s celebration–oof! Between #Sandy & #44 I may be all drunk out for a while!

Video: ‘You Don’t Own Me’ –Lena Dunham, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tavi, Alexa Chung, Etc.

01 November 2012, 22.22 | Posted in celebrity | No comments »

Did you guys see this last week? It came out just before #Sandy hit. Watch if you need some post-storm cheering up because it’s so fun. Lesley Gore, who originally recorded the ’60s hit “You Don’t Own Me,” put together a video featuring the song as lip synched by a bunch of very cool females, including Lena Dunham, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tavi Gevinson and Alexa Chung among many others. Here’s the message according to Gore, who speaks at the end of the video:

Women, let’s rise up. Our vote alone can win this election. A vote for Obama is a vote for your health and your right to choose. It is a vote for equal pay and equal rights. A vote for Obama is a vote for our families. It is a vote to marry who you choose. It’s a vote to start a family when you choose. A vote for Obama says that we won’t stand for violence against women and that rape is rape. Our vote ensures that our daughters will grow up with the same rights that we’ve had. A vote for Obama sends a message: This war on women must end. We will not go backwards.

Baby-girl cheezing at :30 is melting my heart down.to.the.ground! Also, can I just say–I cannot wait to pull the lever for Barack Hussein Obama on Tuesday November 6th, super excited ’bout it!

Do Rihanna’s Bare Nails Mean Something?

01 November 2012, 22.06 | Posted in celebrity, nail art | No comments »

RihannaBareNails 527x540 Do Rihannas Bare Nails Mean Something?

For Halloween Rihanna chose to go with bare nails as shown in the image above. Over at Style (I think it’s Style, can’t find the story anymore, so incredibly maddening–editors you know of what I speak!) there are musings that perhaps this is pointing to the end of the in-your-face nail trend as we know it. The editor infers that Rihanna’s manicure lines up with nail trends shown on runways of late, which are all about bareness.

The thing is, runways beauty trends for a while now have been rather conservative. Whether hair, makeup or nails, designers have chosen to go with relatively staid looks, letting the clothes, shoes and bags make the statement. Most aren’t making a living hawking bags not nail polish after all! As for Rihanna, while her nails are ”natural,” it’s a pretty safe bet they’re fake and just a few days ago she had them painted Vixen red, a perennial fall classic.

That being said, there has been a move away from super complex designs and certainly 3-D nail art is long behind us as a nail trend except for the diehards (and bless their hearts).  Still and all, the nail game is far from dead. More like steady as she goes and if that translate to a breather from every two-bit celebrity and some nail polish company collaborating on a “new” color, no one is going to mind that at all.
