Beginning this week MTV will be featuring “Art breaks” in the the middle of its regular programming.We agree with Hearty magazine that the decision to revive the 1985 art segment is long overdue. Art is good for you! Enjoy the first segment featuring Highsnobette fave Mickalene Thomas.

Devoted to the artistry of scent making  Frédéric Malle discussed his book at an intimate gathering at  the  Frédéric Malle boutique on Madison avenue eralier this week.  We had an opportunity to hear his thoughts on fragrance  as an ar, t his belief that choosing a fragrance is a process that requires time,  and that while some scents can be preferred by men or women he’s not attached to the concept of a specific scent  for specific gender. . On hand were some of our favorites like Maurice roucel’s ‘ Musc Ravageur’ ,  Ralf Schwieger’s ‘ Lipstick rose” ,  Pierre Bourbon’s’ Iris Poudre’ among many others. As well as a complete assortment of body products and candles. Setup like a cozy living room the store’s entrance is as discrete as its interior. Netherland’s Groninger Museum opened its Iris van Herpen exhibit earlier this month, a retrospective of the Dutch couture designer applauded for her striking creations of organic, surreal, futuristic wearable (or are they?) pieces unlike the works of her peers. The museum’s website dishes in on the exhibit details:

“Each collection has its own narrative, and wearability is not the ultimate criterion. For instance, Radiation Invasion is about the invisible radiation and signals all around us that make telecommunication possible. The Synesthesia collection has a neurological phenomenon as its point of departure, where a mingling of sensory perceptions occurs. There are people who can ‘see’ music, for example, or can ‘taste’ colours.”

To have a retrospective exhibit at just 27, life is not too shabby for van Herpen. If you’re among the lucky few who happen to be in the neighborhood, seeing these designs in the flesh is a must. We talked about the upcoming launch a few months back of French artist Fafi’s illustrated book, The Carmine Vault, and now it appears the big day has arrived. Mademoiselle Fafi will celebrate the launch dat at Gallery Nucleus in Alahambra, California, on April 16th. The event will include a mini-exhibit of her work and guests may win signed copies of the book plus receive a Fafi-designed tote bag. Via Hypebeast.
