Grace Lee by Jayne Lies

The brainchild of Grace Lee ( Dj G*LEE), Liaison Femme  is an organization created to “empower and create  awareness of leading creative female DJs and further initiate a universal outreach to women in the professional arts and creative panorama.”

As big believers in female power we of course put our stamp of approval on this dope crew of females which includes Venus X, Mia Moretti, Gina Turner, Louisahhh, DJ Kiss, Samantha Ronson, DJ Tina T, Lindsey Caldwell, Jubilee, Creep (Lauren Flax & Lauren Dillard), Jasmine Solano, Justine D, Kim Ann Foxman and Kitty Cash to name a few.

Liaison Femme from our talks with G*Lee also aims to participate in various creative endeavours in the realm of entertainment but also  supports community involvement of a social nature.  Who said you could not throw a mean party and do some good in your community at the same time?

In this spirit of community around our beloved city of New York, we invite you to the premiere of  ”Made In New York,” hosted by myself and Lois, this Thursday April 4th, at Mister H in the Mondrian Soho. DJ duties will be handled by Dj G*LEE and guest Musa. Details on the flip!

Betony Vernon, who you may recall collaborated with Alexander Wang on a collection of “Second Skin” bracelets, is about to release a book titled Boudoir Bible, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

An uninhibited guide to sexuality, Vernon illustrates her expertise in sexuality and sensuality in a short film titled Evanescence, co-directed alongside Frédéric Sofiyana. The short film will be released on the same day as the book. Enjoy the teaser video above as a precursor of what is to come.

New York-based designer and fashion consultant Jerome Le Maar aka TheStyleMonk has dressed our favorite female comic characters in the most significant pieces from the Spring/Summer 2013 collections from designers Pierre Balmain, Balenciaga, Givenchy and others. And indeed, while looking at these illustrations I wonder why no one before ever had the idea of putting Sailor Moon, Betty Boop and Co. (who by the way all have the perfect model’s measurements) into designer pieces.

Definitely appropriate for Valentine’s day but,  also  making  a statement to always love and be kind to yourself, we’re thoroughly smitten with Kurtis Kulig’s “Love Me” tag, and having it on  the always fun and stylish Happy Socks is too cool for us not  to share. The first week of December sees crowds of art and design enthusiasts flock to Miami for Design Miami and Art Basel. As a lover of all things creative , I ventured  to buzzing South Beach  in a Yukon Denali Hybrid to see what all the hoopla was about. From brands who use the events as a platform to promote to visitors in search of the next hot party and real collectors in search of their next acquisition, the whole thing is a beautiful mashup of many things and people .

There are  always party pictures galore of “who” was there, but very little about the art and design itself  on sites  that mostly feature fashion. And while I’ll never claim to be an art or design critic, enjoying  beauty  should be  accessible to all who appreciate  it, hence our coverage of what we see as a very inspiring gathering of people and culture.

Upon arrival to  Design Miami  I was greeted by an impressive installation by Snarkitecture (above) that gave the feeling of being transported into a very modern outerspace environment. The exhibit itself was a very well curated assortment of design ranging from new and vintage jewellery  to  art installations and of course furniture. On the next page get a little glimpse of what caught my eye.
