Any serious fashion observer in NYC cannot ignore that J.Crew has been gaining serious ground as a brand and as a retailer with the success of their smaller men’s stores and of Madewell. The women’s J.crew line however  although fueled by The First Lady’s flawless style  has not fully gained the same momentum as the other divisions.

 The line has been rediscovered by  the women who wore high end classy fashion, became alot more fun and playful contrasting high and low, dressy and casual but still a little too pricey  in our opinion . If this collabo with  Dana Loren’s Fenton -Fallon is a sign of what is to come, looks like  J.Crew women’s “hot” factor could be on its way . Don’t sleep on Jenna Lyons! Another necklace on the flip. We highlighted Rihanna’s manicure for the Grammy Awards last week, and just now I stumbled across a close-up shot. As you can see for yourself they are simply amazing. I can’t quite figure out what the art is, but it looks like some form of currency. It reminds me of a manicure I spotted on the cashier in a McDonald’s drive through a few years back. She had teeny-tiny, shredded-up dollar bills lacquared on to her tips. I almost feinted! I’m telling you, shopping may cheer a girl up, but nothing lifts a heart like glancing down at a freshly polished set of nails.

Oh boy, what was boy genius thinking we he put his stamp on this design, which, as bloggers have repeatedly pointed out here, here and here, is priced at $1,960. I’m kind of making fun of Kanye with my headline, but I think any person outside of the few that breathe the very thin air Marc Jacobs and friends do, find the out-of-touchness of this item borderline shocking. Then again, Jacobs has visionary tendencies so maybe he has a feeling for a brighter, more light-hearted and humorous future than the rest of us. (Yep, making excuses as I go along, I know.)

Gucci, the brand of which I am a total Stan just announced it will reach into its media archives to create its next set of watch ads. Pulled from campaigns from the 60s, they feature model Veruschka and in another ad not featured here, Peter Sellers (r.i.p!).  Three Gucci watches will be superimposed over the old images, including Gucci’s first-ever digital watch. Love the idea and the look of the photographs and very smart of Gucci to tap into its insanely rich heritage.

As there is snow on the ground currently in NYC we get a little  the consolation from  these well executed sandals by Chloe. The trend has been done but these were too sleek to pass. Available at net-a-porter.

Not a fan of holidays in general, but Valentine’s Day takes the cake for dislike levels. So I’m ignoring that our beloved Toofly is promoting her heart necklace as a Valentine’s Day item. She re-colored last year’s silver and gold version in red and black and they are priced at a very affordable $30. Toofly will be donating $1 from each purchase to Yele to help Haiti rebuild.
