Looking flawless as always, Jennifery Lopez lands of the cover of Harper’s Bazaar February 2013 issue, as shot by Katjia Rawles on locatio at the Ciragen Palance Hotel in Instanbul. At the time of the shoot, Lopez was in the midst of an international tour accompanied by her two twins, Max & Emme, her mother, Guadalupe, and her boyfriend, Casper Smart. Discussing her style, Lopez comments:

Over the past two decades, she has evolved from a “boyish, hip-hoppy sensibility: big hoops, sneakers, tank tops, and my big curly hair. When I got into the business, I developed a love of monochromatic looks.” But then she “added that sexy element to it. Then it was classic things, movie stars, Jackie O. And now,” she says, exhaling, “all of these things mixed together, that’s my style.”

15 August 2012, 03.36 | Posted in Design, Designer Collaboration, Fashion, activewear, streetwear | 1 comment »

Y’OH founder and designer Kara Messina ends her Miadidas video with a shout out out to “all the sisters who are stepping up.”  As part of Adidas’s London-based customization crew, Messina is shown above discussing the inspiration behind the Adidas boxing kicks she customized in tribute to the first-time addition of female boxers to the recently-completed London Olympics.  HighSnobette was excited to quiz Messina about her views on design:

What is you relationship with streetwear and menswear ?
My relationship with fashion in general started at quite a young age. I was writing letters to Versace (he didn’t reply) when I was about 12. So I have pretty much dedicated my life so far to studying it. My interest in fashion very much lies in its impact on people, how it connects us and how we make use of it…

Rihanna on the cover of Elle’s May issues in a leather Versace skirt and top. On her very public fall out with Chris Brown, she says:

“It gave me guns. I was like, well, fuck. They know more about me than I want them to know. It’s embarrassing. But that was my opening. That was my liberation, my moment of bring it. […] Now you know that, so you can say what you want about it. I don’t have anything to hide.”

She also does not care what you think about her recording a song with Brown:

“The bottom line is that everyone thinks differently. It’s very hard for me to accept, but I get it. People end up wasting their time on the blogs or whatever, ranting away, and that’s all right. Because tomorrow I’m still going to be the same person. I’m still going to do what I want to do.”

Kanye Writes Twitter Novel On Fashion Etc

KanyeWestTwitter Kanye Writes Twitter Novel On Fashion Etc

Well, something good came of the false story of Kanye starting a Dw Twitter. Besides revealing that his label is called Kanye West, not Dw, he started Tweeting big time and what followed was sort of a train of thoughts on fashion and his views on life and people and planned projects. For now, here’s what he said about fashion, which, yea, I stole from Eletrostaticluv….again. So when you steal this from us, credit him ; )

…They [say] you only live once but every time I come to work I feel like I’m starting a second life.

You guys might think I have some type of backing for my line but I don’t. I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion. I’ve been working at this for 8 years now, from the first offers to do urban clothing lines that I turned down to begging Bape to do my line and never making any real headway to having an office in LA that was shut down after the “MTV” moment along with my tour with GAGA.

I moved to Japan for one month after that and designed every night in my room. I had this opportunity to intern at Fendi and was also offered a position at Versace wich I could not take due to my contract with LV, which was for 2 years. I moved to Rome after I left Japan and worked at Fendi for 4 months under cover. I was there to give ideas for the men’s collection. I snuck to [the] Giuseppe Zanotti Factory still under contract and learned to design women’s shoes for 2 years before my first show in Paris. After doing the first LV collection, I was sure I would get a second shot to create but was never given the opportunity. I designed a sneaker called the YEEZY with Nike. I’m “allowed” to design 1 pair of sneakers every 2 years. I have more ideas…

Early 2011, I moved to Paris and opened a small design studio. The language barrier was quite difficult. I still don’t have a Paris VAT number to this day. I don’t know what a VAT [is], but every time I asked why we didn’t have fabrics, they said it was because of the VAT. In Paris, I met many great people in design including the master Azzedine Alaia. Azzedine even came by my studio one day. : ))) This was the greatest feeling to stand in his presence in my embarrassingly small Paris studio in a courtyard opposite Collate.

I remember being 5 years old… and my mother taking me with her shopping at the discount fur spots. She said I would always point to the most expensive furs even as a child. LOL. [There]’s something about making clothing that always brings me back to that point. For the first 16 or 17 years of my life the only thing I knew about… woman’s clothing was what my Mom would wear. I guess some critics would joke that I still don’t know anything. LOL. My Mom would wear blue jeans with a fur and an embellished “Cosby Show” sweater : ) to pick me up from school. The teachers said I couldn’t focus… I used to get kicked out of class for bringing dirty mags and drawing Nikeys in 4th grade.

Being a celebrity has afforded me many opportunities but has also boxed me in creatively. I was just discussing becoming the creative director for The Jetsons movie and someone on the call yelled out, “You should do a Jetsons tour!” This just happened a few hours ago. I was very insulted of course becuase for anyone that’s seen the Watch the Throne Tour or Coachella or Glow in the Dark or Runaway, you know I have real ideas. I appreciate having the most nominations at the Grammies but I feel so conflicted by the fact that award shows sometimes are completely illogical. Good logic tells me, ‘Smile Kanye. The world likes you again… Red or blue pill? … aaaaand Swallow.’ Lol. I wouldn’t have the prestige I have if it wasn’t partially for the Grammies validation and I honor that.

….hmmmmm what to wear… here I go again… Yeezy the trend setter or complete fucking fashion victim … the verdict is still out.

This is just a train of thought, but [I] figure it’s better to read than trained thoughts.”

Luv you, Kanye.
