The Olsen Twins Drop A Pill-Covered, $55K Backpack

04 December 2012, 12.16 | Posted in Ridiculous Pricing, bags | No comments »

The Row Olsens backpack The Olsen Twins Drop A Pill Covered, $55K Backpack
In collaboration with Just One Eye and fashion designer Damien Hirst, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen created this limited $55K backpack for their lable’s ‘The Row’ 2012 collection. The price for this incredible piece seems rediculously high but regarding the The Row’s crocodile backpack from the last years collection, priced $35K, which sold out within a just few days, I doubt that this one-of-a-kind wearable artwork will not sell out. The backpack features numerous multicolored prescription pill appliqués that were designed by Hirst. Next to the pills-backpack there are a few other other polka-dotted versions disolayed in the video below.

Just in case, the backback will release on December 12 at Just One Eye.

Would you buy it, if you could?

Numero China cover Editorial: Huang Xiao Meng As AMAZON For Numéro China

Shot by Tiziano Magni for Numéro China, Huang Xiao Meng is the perfect incarnation of the modern amazon. In a simple black and white shooting, the photographer managed to point out the significance of the leather clothing but make it look feminine anyways due to the soft appearance of gorgeous looking Huang Xiao.

Louboutin Argues For ‘Very Specific Red’ Sole

08 February 2012, 16.38 | Posted in Designer news, Shoes | No comments »

DitaScarlett&Christian

Christian Louboutin in an interview with French newspaper Libération (translation via Vogue UK) laid out his case against YSL for designing a shoe featuring a red sole:

“….it is a red in a specific context [in the way that], there is Ferrari red [and] Hermès orange. Even in the food industry, Cadbury recently won a lawsuit against Nestlé for using purple packaging. All this proves that the colours play a part in a brand’s identity. I’m not saying that red usually belongs to me – I repeat that this is about a precise red, used in a precise location.”

He also shed some light on his own relationship with PPR, a publically-traded company, which owns YSL and has made numerous offers to buy Christian Louboutin, all of which Louboutin has turned down. He then flips from business to personal, going in on YSL’s decision to design shoes with red soles:

“I find it most incredible that a group like PPR would take the risk of defending itself as a plagiarist. They claim to fight against counterfeiting and plagiarism of which they are victims and yet behave like this.”

What a distraction this must be for Louboutin. I wonder sometimes if he doesn’t think, why did we even bother with this in the first place. After all, even though he isn’t the first to do red soles, among people in the know, that design element is metaphorically owned by him. But something in his gut must be telling him to fight another day so in the end we just hope he has his way for reasons we posted here. If he does not, it will be intriguing to see what the fall out will be.

Kanye Dw Collection Brings Out The High School In Fashion Community

AnnaDelloRussoAlexanderMcQueen 540x412 Kanye Dw Collection Brings Out The High School In Fashion Community

It’s been quite the popcorn-muncher post Kanye West’s Dw runway show, held during Paris Fashion Week over this past weekend. Besides mixed reviews, which seemed to be most focused on ill-fitting clothes (which, btw, happens all the time on runways–even with designers with years of experience but is rarely pointed out in reviews) and him cursing during the toast at his own (private) party, the ripples kept coming from his debut show four days later.

First there was Anna Dello Russo (above) wearing head-to-toe Dw to the Alexander McQueen show, then Susie Bubble weighing in and relating back to her own experiences as an outsider (”Walking into a show and having eyes stare at you wondering why you’re even there is something that I’m well used to and on a universally larger scale, before even having put a stitch out, the jury was already out on West’s collection judging by the numerous malicious comments.”), followed by Anna Wintour saying “Ask someone else,” when interviewed about the show and our most favorite yet in terms of high school levels of entertainment value, a NY Times columnist dressing down West for sitting one of the Olsen sisters too near to Lindsay Lohan ’cause the Olsens have somehow paid their dues in fashion while Lindsay almost caused the collapse of Ungaro. Too funny or rather, #seriously?

Our opinion remains the same–some of it was good and let’s wait and see what happens and if he has it in him to go long haul. That being said–goodness this man has the power to make people chatter! He’s known for it in the music world and he’s carried that quality over to fashion and at the very least we’re all certainly more entertained for it.

Veronique Branquino Shutting Down

Veronique Branquinho s/s '09 via style

The most striking thing about these economic times we are living in , is that longevity, experience and talent sadly  are not  factors  that allow brands to survive…as per The cut: ” Belgian fashion-design star Veronique Branquinho will close her eleven-year-old label after a steep decline in orders for fall and numerous canceled orders and nonpayments for the spring collection. The label had about 50 wholesale clients and one stand-alone store in Antwerp, where merchandise should go on clearance pretty soon. Branquinho herself has another gig, as the new artistic director of Belgian leather-goods brand Delvaux. “  Jeez…Don’t even wanna think of who is next?
