As Lois and I have been toiling in secret these past few months, we’re glad to announce that we’ve partnered with Junkfood Arthouse to design the first ever Smurfette-themed runway show to take place this February, as reported by WWD this morning:
To make some noise for this summer’s release of “The Smurfs 2” movie, Sony Pictures Animation and Junk Food Art House have teamed to stage “Le Look Smurfette” fashion show Feb. 13. Moonlighting as creative directors for the project, Highsnobette’s Lois Sakany and Samia Grand-Pierre have created a blue-infused collection inspired by the dwarflike creature.
Our aesthetic theme for the collection is “Gamine Chic,” contrasting the modern look of classic tailored silhouettes with signature soft knit tops, which are the heart of the Junk Food brand. The looks will cleverly combine the Smurfs color palette with inspirations from the movie’s Paris story line. In keeping with the futuristic fairy tale aesthetic of the Smurfs world, tops are cut in a variety of soft shapes that portray Smurfette’s rough and tumble yet girlish nature. Styling silhouettes include mod dresses, sharp trousers, flip skirts and three-quarter length cropped jackets.
The customized cotton tees in the show will be heightened with art that speaks to the trippy and futuristic appeal of the Smurfs, including the Smurfs theme song, all-over print head shots of Smurfette and key scenes and phrases from episodes, all of which are exactly in step with current fashion themes paying tribute to brightly colored animated character with icon status.
The styling of the show will reflect the mash up looks international cities are now themed upon. Gone are the days of the head-to-toe look. High and low collide to create a look, synonymous with this generation’s embrace of everything cool. Feminine chic sensibilities join with futurism, brushed with a hint of future fairy dust and a taste for adventure, perfect for the look of Smurfette in Paris.
