The Ikea monkey (named Darwin–shown above left) story has blazed across the internet, capturing our hearts because, well, as lost and lonely as he appears in the Toronto Ikea in his somehow heartbreaking little double-breasted shearling coat, who of us can’t relate and feel some solidarity with his status as an alienated outcast whose best attempt to fit in falls flat on its face.

Jumping all over the chance to connect the memes–one of the internet’s favorite pastimes, Canadian artist Simone Manley has created a painting titled “Ikeas Homonkulus,” a tribute to Darwin and the failed Jesus fresco restoration (shown before and after above right) that was reported on back in August.  On the painting, which has already sold for $60, Manley comments:

“This portrait of the Well Dressed Ikea Monkey would make a sacrilicious Christmas gift for anyone who loves monkeys, botched Italian artwork and The Internet.”
