Last week we had the pleasure of  attending the BLK DNM Spring 2012 preview and were  fitted to test drive a pair of  the brand’s signature denim. The concept spearheded by Johan Lindeberg includes  women’s and men’s apparel centered around sleek classics with a gritty urban sensibility. The denim is long and lean with subtle weathered threatments. While there have been many a “fug” post on the woes of  high-waisted denim, the retro silhouette of jean No. 8 (as seen on the flip) is one we admire and find quite the fierceness. C Wonder, a new boutique in SoHo (which may as well call itself Tory Burch’s ex’s store because that’s how everyone refers to it) is selling some very cute bicycles perfect for city riding. The one hitch is the ladies frame, which makes it very tough to hoist on your shoulder when carrying it up and down from the apartment if you don’t have an elevator.

The CFDA in partnership with Vogue awarded Joseph Altuzurra, the winner of its fund prize last week and lots of fashion folks turned out for the event.  Above in a study of contrasts is actress Rooney Mara and CFDA presidente, Diane Von Furstenberg.

Through Vogue, Tom Ford distributes images of his Spring 2012 collection, first shown during London Fashion Week. In a season where everyone seemed to be celebrating prints, Ford stayed in a decidedly solid lane with the line overall having a more evening than daytime feel, with the best pieces his red-carpet-perfect evening gowns like the one featured above.

Looking through the images, thoughts of Gucci kept springing to mind, which has to be expected. As a result of his strategy to position the label in an ultra-low profile manner, there haven’t been many opportunities for an iconic look to emerge and be identified as distinctly Tom Ford rather than the label where he made his name. If it’s Ford’s intent to stay very limited to the point where he’s almost doing custom designing then that strategy could work, but if he wants to be a bit more mass with retail stores not to mention perfumes and whatnot he may need to loosen up a bit when it comes to letting the public in.

Functioning like a logo, the dinstinct red and green color bands that shout Gucci mean the label doesn’t need to do much to make an item “fancy.”

The big athletic shoe companies are starting to sit up and take notice of the uptick in popularity of sneakers among females. Reebok joins the party with the Chi-Kaze (pronounced “she-kaze”), a female version of its Kamikaze III, launched earlier this year in collaboration with Swizz Beatz.  Available at Journey’s in December.

During a live performance of the song “I Was Here,” Beyonce shows a video highlighting big moments in her life and includes some quick looks at the dress she wore when she wedded Sean Carter in 2008. Some other moments include her performing with Michael Jackson, Prince, Tina Turner, not to mention rubbing shoulders with Nelson Mandela and Oprah but somehow my fave spots are her interactions with that husband of hers–such a cute couple, can’t help but hope that it all works out.

On the next page see a screen grab of the dress via Thecut who tells us the dress was designed by Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles. 

While we love the picture and consider ourselves  in appreciation of Ms. Badu’s irreverent style, the henna design on her leg is really a highlight. Living in a little Pakistan enclave in Brooklyn, we’ve been blessed to be able to rock some pretty fierce  Mehndi designs.
