Fashionising (4)

Via Fashionising a swimsuit editorial shot by Antony Nobilo and styled by Sarah-Jane Cook. Besides being beautifully photographed we like the badass take for a swimsuit shoot, whose themes tend to lean toward a more passive, sultry approach. More on the next page.

Levi’s Presentation Spring 2012

Levi'sSpring2012 (6)

Levi’s normally does a pretty good job previewing its collections, but it really pulled out all the stops last night in a presentation that hit all the heritage hot buttons, including a farmers-market-type stand displaying customized vintage denim, handcrafted mocassins, and homemade soap, there was also a floor-to-ceiling bicycle sculpture, live classical music, a mini-barn complete with a picket-fence-lined yard packed full with purdy locals all chilling in various Levi’s outfits (see one above), a giant rowboat and locally-inspired but super creative hors d’œuvres, some of which were handed out from a booth by a chef, who made them fresh throughout the evening. Like I said, Levi’s went all out!

And all the props of course were there to serve as a backdrop to the Spring 2012 collection with a lot of the looks harkening back to the brand’s more classic cuts and washes. For the most part silhouettes were simple and free of details, though there was a lot of colored denim on display–albeit with an emphasis less on bright colors and more on a countrified palette including rusty browns, washed-out greys and dusty pinks.

See more of the presentation on the next page, plus some shots of attendees.

BroadwayEarrings 540x405 Door Knocker Earrings On Lower Broadway

On the way to the Levi’s event (images about to be posted) we passed a lower Broadway window in SoHo, with these giant gold earrings, positioned front and center. There are different types of classic fashion looks depending on who you are and where you come from but for citified chicks, the silhouettes featured here definitely have classic status.

ndebele1 540x352 WeThePPL Ünt Travel Bags

When the temperature reaches below 60 degrees yours truly often wishes to be like a duck and fly south to escape the slush, frost and inevitable below zero temperatures. The ”Ünt” (”camel” in Hindi) travel bags  bags by WeThePPL, was inspired by a trip to south Africa.  Adorned with embroidery from the Ndebele Royal tride, definitely it’s bag  to take on that journey to sunny days. Better yet might just use one to go to the farmer’s market. Available  here.

Style.com 540x540 Style.com Print Premiere Issue

The first issue of Style.com/Print is available on newstands. Lindsey Wixon is featured on the cover–not suprisingly a model because according to a Times profile, the magazine’s goal is to look back at the Spring runway shows with content like, “Tommy Ton street-style photos, top-10 lists of most-viewed shows (Chanel was No. 1 with 3.5 million page views), the favorites of its editors (Balenciaga came in first), the most ubiquitous party people, the best shoes and bags and models, and the best-dressed fashionista based on reader votes (Giovanna Battaglia pulled off a major upset).” Buy it at Colette.

Lana Del Ray On Cover Of Wonderland Magazine

WonderlandLanaDelRay 405x540 Lana Del Ray On Cover Of Wonderland Magazine

Wonderland magazines puts controversial new pop-star Lana Del Ray on its November/December cover. Shot by AJ Numan, she’s wearing jewels by Prada. Not yet aware of Del Ray much less the controversy? It boils down to her lips being fake or not (I’m gonna go to hell for writing this but I actually think they are paid for), which is shallow, yes, but more reflects on the “Manchurian” nature of her rise to fame. Indeed, even the young and hip enjoy a juicy conspiracy or two. You want more, check out Hipsterrunoff for the complete rant.

If you just want to judge for yourself, check out a recent video for “Video Games” on the next page.

Audio: Amy Winehouse ‘Like Smoke’

AmyWinehouseLioness Audio: Amy Winehouse Like Smoke
We mentioned the December release of Amy Winehouse’s posthumous album, The Lioness, last week, and now its looks like we’re going to get tastes of it in the days leading up to its official launch. The single featured here is “Like Smoke,” a collaboration with Nas. Besides being a nice pairing, it’s all the more compelling because of the rumored affair between the two, detailed in Winehouse’s song “Me & Mr. Jones.” Still, like any posthumous launch there will be valid criticisms about the appropriateness of releasing material sans the artist’s final stamp approval.
