Video: Rihanna ‘We Found Love’

In her video premiere of “We Found Love,” Rihanna with co-star Dudley O’Shaughnessy perfectly play out the role of the tempestuous young couple, speeding through life at 100 mph with the crash inevetible but the lifetime of yearning memories oh-so-worth all the pain. Never let it be said that Rihanna has a fear of fire with the multiple screaming/fighting car scenes not to mention O’Shaughnessy’s appearance certain to draw repeated comparisons to her most famous and controversial ex.

Joya Studio ‘Army Candle Project’

Joya Army Candle Project Web 2

A perfect gift to give or receive, the camouflage lover in me is very pleased with the latest from  Joya Studio, the “Army Candle Project,” a double-candle housed in vintage British Army soap dishes marked 1945:

Two scents are poured in a natural soy wax blend: Dawn (Amber Absolute) and Dusk (Bitter Orange Leaf). The candles are packaged in British DPM camouflage that has been tailored by hand in the size of a traditional handkerchief. This can be used as a coaster for the metal candle, which may become hot while lit. Finally, the item is wrapped in olive green paracord—a simple, practical gesture reminiscent of Japanese packaging. Only 100 have been produced, and each fabric wrap is stamped and numbered.

Book: ‘Rick Owens’ Now Available

rick owens

Definitely adding this to our collection, the Rick Owens book published with Rizzoli is here:

This luxurious large-format book documents the work of the American designer Rick Owens, a transformational figure in contemporary fashion. Defiantly antifashion, Rick Owens’s honest and intensely personal approach to craft has ironically produced some of the most sublime fashion of the last two decades, propelling him to the front ranks of the international avant-garde. Established in 1994, Owens’s subversive designs have now become some of the most critically admired in the Paris collections. Distinguished by an aesthetic that the designer has himself described as “grunge meets glamour,” this gritty elegance-tempered by a remarkable restraint-has won him a fanatical international following…

Video: Ellie Goulding Runs For Nike

19 October 2011, 14.57 | Posted in Music, activewear, advertisement | No comments »

Well this is sort of fascinating–Nike markets its runing shoes via U.K. singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding in a video that shows her both running and performing. Interesting to me anyway because Nike has always been obsessed with promoting itself to the world as rooted in performance. Speak to its p.r. people for an article or listen to any speech made by executives and you can basically use the word “performance” as the basis of a drinking game–they use the word that often in an almost mantra-like way.

And yes, Nike has done collaborations with artists, designers, musicians, etc. but it’s my recollection that when it comes to technical product Nike always connects that product to recognized athletes. This sort of change in strategy where Nike positions musicians as athletic-like performers follows the lead of Adidas’s “All In” campaign, which features both athletes and musicians. Not sure of the implications, but definitely it will be interesting to see if the mighty Swoosh continues down this path. Via Ffg.

Amelina Anna ‘Monroe’ Manicure

AmelinaAnna

Nail artist Amelina Anna  has deemed this patented nail shape the “Monroe.” It’s featured here in a shoot for Scratch magazine. Anna works out of salon in Kiev, Ukraine, called French Guru Nails, whose very awesome tagline is “We Know How To Seduce Men.” In a q & a interview on the site, Anna gives her thoughts on current nail trends and shares some of those seduction secrets:

Q: Matching nails with lip colour, what’s your verdict?
A: Everything should be matched! Not only lips and nails, because you can match the colour of clothes, shoes, eye colour and much more.
Q: We’ve seen the talon and the square or oval, but which nail shape do you think is the most flattering?
A: Of course, Monroe! It’s much stronger than the square one and sexier than oval one. This form excites men’s imagination!

We spotted this on Sosoflynails, run by boss U.K. nail artist Sophy Robson, who can’t decide which is hotter–the nails or the eyebrows….we can’t either!
