There was some discussion on some blog recently about how New York Fashion Week has changed and probably the biggest difference is so many more designers are showing now versus, say, ten years ago. Whether big or little or massive retail chains (who actually expect us to think they’re setting trends–as if!) or Project Runway contestants, they show! It’s hard to fathom even the most efficient and energetic not being overwhelmed or at least feeling like the whole event just blows by in a wink and you barely catch any of it.

I say that all to say that I’m sort of in catch up mode now and wanting to post about some of the folks I’m just now seeing. Like designer Lindsey Degen above whose knitwear pieces are kind of neat. I love the bra-top featured here. It’s howing a little but not much. And it’s kind of studenty and artsy, but whatever, still nice. See more here.

We first noticed the white shoe trend at Alexander Wang, who showed no less than three versions of white shoes (above), but then the look continued to pop up on runway after runway, on silhouettes ranging from pointy-toed pumps to minimalist wedges and menswear-inspired loafers. And while yes, the trend was mostly concentrated among designers who target the young and hip, in truth it was fairly transcendent and looks to be one of if not the most unifying theme of New York’s spring 2012 runways. And it’s nothing stopping in NYC. From the looks of London fashion week, the white shoe trend is hitting big there, too, starting with no less than Burberry.

I was starting to pull all the best looks from the Emmy Awards, but as my pulse started to fade, dying from boredom from all the monocromatic red, blue or grey silk/satin/sparkly gowns, I had to stop–seriously, I couldn’t take it any more. All that survived was over-sharer Heidi in her big frou-frou dress, which was three times more exciting than most. Seriously, why does this award show even exist anymore? Case in point, The Amazing Race won best reality show. Be honest, how many of you thought that show was canceled at least two years ago?

A consistent provider of scarves and jewellery we highly covet, A Peace Treaty ’s collection for Spring 2012 is inspired by island castaways. Pop art graphics accompany vintage looking bold jewelry pieces that look like they were found in a treasure chest a t the bottom of the ocean. On the next page a peek at what is to come!

One of our faves designers Mriga Kapadiya and Amrit Kumar’s Nor Black Nor White label features their signature use of handwoven fabrics with rich colors and the introduction of silk fringed  separates that have us swooning. Launched in 2007, Alternative Apparel started off as an assortment of blank tees, creating a design space for the creative endeavours of individuals and companies. One of the most sought  after designers in Taiwan Jasper Juang has wooed us with his ability to take make a  pair of silk pants as exquisitely glamorous as a ball gown. Titled “Dancer in Temple,” his Spring/Summer 2012 collection is  filled with color and glamour.  On the next page, the designer’s “Painting Series,” comprised of Juang’s own custom prints applied on clothing.
