Miu Miu Pre-Spring 2012

MiuMiuSpring2012 (13)

Judging from Miu Miu’s Pre-spring 2012 collection, the label looks to maintain its position as princess of the big-name designer labels (with Prada the reigning queen, natch), crusing on a combination of established brand clout + a right-for-the-moment design aeshetic that can be best described as girly city slicker. Maki’s ‘Feather’ Nail Art

MakiFeatherManicure 540x403 Makis Feather Nail Art

Maki, THE woman as far I’m concerned when it comes to nail art, was away for some months so I essentially spent the summer wandering from salon to salon like a lost child in the desert trying to cobble together decent nail art stories. On this page you’re seeeing her latest work, a “feather” mani which, yes, is highlighted by an embedded feather on five nails plus stone work. It’s kind of elegant, no? Yet still decadent, which…..heart all a flutter–you know how when you first get a mani and can’t stop looking at it and you never want it to fade or go away? I’m so there.

If you’re in NYC and want to get your nails Done for Fashion Week, click after the flip for her email

TokidokixK11 a 540x405 Tokidoki x K11 Art Collaborative Product

K11 Art Mall, located in Hong Kong has kicked off a collaborative art project with designs of one of our long-time faves, Simone Legno of Tokidoki. The exhibit includes two massive sculptures (”Caeser” is shown above and “Kiko” is after the flip), plus a pop-up shop, including iphone accessories, tote bags and umbrellas. Massive cuteness!

And btw, if you follow Tokidoki you know the brand has had a very successful collaboration with Sephora, and Simone mentions in his email to us that he has something in the works with Sephora for FNO so stay tuned!

Sebago x Ronnie Fieg ‘Abenaki’ Boot

SebagoRonnieFiegAbenakiBoot 540x360 Sebago x Ronnie Fieg Abenaki Boot

We wrote about this collabo between Sebago and Ronnie Fieg a while back and I’m hearing through the Fiegster that they are now available at his store and going fast. For purchase here.

[Full disclosure, when Samia first saw these she fell deeply in love with them. I meant to get at Ronnie for a pair and when we were in Vegas we ran into him and he very generously hooked us both up. I say this all to say that they have since arrived and I, too, have fallen in love! The leather is amaaaazing and the (detachable) fringe cuff makes them next level. To see them in action, check out this street shot of style blogger Marcus Troy wearing them, as shot by William Yan. They really are the perfect shoe for Autumn.]

Project LV: G-Star Raw Spring 2012

GStar 540x405 Project LV: G Star Raw Spring 2012

Of course while at Project in Las Vegas, we visited the G-Star booth to see what this growing international denim brand is up to. Never one to chase trends, the focus remains season after season quality denim, featuring distinct washes and a great 3-D fit, which may look sort of “off” on the hanger, but looks and feels fantastic on the body.

We also learned while there per awesome p.r. rep, Ida, that G-Star will not show during NY Fashion Week this year. It used to be the runway collection was literally just for show, but now pieces will be available for purchase, thus a change in presentation as well. Plus, says Ida, G-Star thinks it makes more sense to focus on events like trade shows, opening more stores and denim innovation.

And I gotta concur that in many ways the way collections are presented on the runway and all the cost involved somehow seems very old school. You have to figure there is more of this trend of not showing to come.

We featured an image worn by a fit model at the booth above, but you can peep some of the Spring 2012 line on the next page.

Thursday Friday ‘Chanel’ Tote Bags

01 September 2011, 16.39 | Posted in bags | No comments »

ThursdayFriday (2)

Tote-bag company Thursday Friday gained quite a bit of infamy earlier this year when news of its “Hermes” bags went viral, publicity which eventually led to a successful cease and desist by the real Hermes. While at Project in Las Vegas last week, we stopped by the company’s booth (which was buzzing) to spy the newest copy, the incredibly iconic quilted Chanel bag.

[UPDATE: I've had an interesting exchange of emails with creative director, Roni Brunn, at T/F and need to correct an inaccuracy. While Hermes did sue T/F there was no "cease and desist" by any judge, the two companies settled out of court.]

Personally I’m not sure how I feel about this product. One thing I’ve always hated about fashion is how little can be protected from the knock-off artists, essentially forcing young creatives who live and die by their ideas to focus solely on staying one step ahead of the vampires. That being said, Hermes and Chanel are no innocents, yet still, I could see where they would be motivated to squash a blatent copy of an item that a large part of their image not to mention revenues is based upon.

There is an interview with Thursday Friday’s creative director, Roni Brunn, at Glamour today and she compares the bags to pop art, a la Andy Warhol and Campbell soup cans. And sorry, but not quite–one is art the other is clearly commerce. I’m sure if Brunn made a painting featuring a Hermes or Chanel bag that landed in MOMA, they would be fine with it. And ’sides, if she really believed that then why did the company choose to leave out Chanel’s famous interlocking Cs logo from the bags?

But then there’s that feral side to me that’s like, eff it, yeah, brands like Chanel and Hermes deserve this because on its face the whole idea of “luxury” is deserving of mockery and takedown. Just don’t pretend your doing something noble and artisitc when you’re not.

More “Chanel” bags on the flip.

Delfina Delettrez ‘Make Your Finger’ Ring

pop 43988 3 Delfina Delettrez Make Your Finger Ring

This is the kind of jewellery I  find irresistible not for the edgy, conceptual nature of Delettrez’s cool design, but honestly because (raise your had and if you can relate)  it reminds me of digging through my mom’s nail polish collection and inflicting every doll I owned with colored nails. The fact that the polish is removable also begs for  some ridic nail art design. Pick it up at OC.
