Museum of FIT: Daphne Guinness Opening Gala

DaphneGuinnessFITBW (15)

Fashion is at its best when it rubbing shoulders with the art world and such was the case at the Museum of FIT, which launched its Daphne Guinness exhibit last night at a super-fun event that nicely brought together the art world and the fashionistas with all sorts of crossover in between. Daphne Guinness graciously held camp in the museum throughout the event, chatting intently with whomever approached her–and she was very approachable.

And the fashion–wow! Her collection is eye-popping (lots of black, LOTS of McQueen–what a terrible loss that must have been for her) and you realize after viewing it all what an amazing gift Guinness is to the industry. Definitely a must-see exhibit, which you can find more info on here.

See many more images of attendees and the exhibit on the next page.

Highsnobette renatamorales91 540x516 Introducing:Renata Morales Autumn/Winter 2011

I’m very excited to share with you to the stunning work of fellow Canadian Renata Morales. Her Autumn/Winter 2011 collection is filled with the kind of dresses this Snobette would want to wear, highly detailed with a slightly disheveled edge, contrasting couture-like silhouettes with a  certain rawness. The look of the line is modern and sexywith a hint of badass. In other words you can put on your Kirkwood’s and head to a gala then switch into combat boots and jump on your Harley. (In the movie of my life this makes perfect sense–you get the idea.)  It was hard to pick a favorite, so take a look at the whole line on the flip. Merci Kenza!

Sophy Robson: NYFW Vs. LFW Nail Art…It’s On!

Joy Cioci Spring 2012

Super bad nail artist Sophy Robson via her new Tumbler, Sosoflynails, natch, has been observing and commenting on the NYFW nail art scene and these “Lucite” nail from Joy Cioci’s show were the first to impress her. However, judging from this quote…

“Wow finally an interesting look at #NYFW! …..designer Joy Cioci showed some love to nail art by showing clear lucite tips covered in white lace. Not bad but lets see what London has to offer next week.”

….we get the feeling she thinks London Fashion Week is going to throw down all over NYFW where nail art is concerned. In which case…it’s on London! We’ll be watching to see what you all bring to the table. No pressure, ladies! ; )

Book: ‘Girls Got Kicks’ Launches Today!

15 September 2011, 09.45 | Posted in Art, Books, Fashion, Sneakers | 2 comments »

ggk front cover for websmaller 428x540 Book: Girls Got Kicks Launches Today!

For anyone who knew of us about five years ago, we started as a column called Chicks With Kicks on Highsnobiety. Our love for a good pair of sneakers even in our more posh Snobette digs has remained untouched. In the HighSnobette universe, four-inch heels and sneakers are just as sexy as tight jeans, a Fleet Ilya harness or a Chanel suit. Illustrating the love  that many of  us have for le sneaker Lori Lobenstine of Femalesneakerfiend  teamed up with Amanda Lopez to bring you “Girls Got Kicks,” a photo book documenting women and girls in their kicks:

Girls Got Kicks… the first ever photo documentary of the badass females, told from a unique angle: their passion for sneakers. From celebrities like WNBA Rookie-of-the Year Tina Charls, legendary b girl Rokafella, and “Downtown’s Sweetheart” Vashtie Kola, to extraordinary young women famous only for their obsessive love of sneaker, Girls Got Kicks celebrates the beauty and diversity of female sneaker fiends the world over. Whether they’re running home in the rain barefoot to save their precious kicks or tearing them up at the skate park, whether they’re matching them to their wedding dress or their basketball uniform, Girls Got Kicks documents how these sneaker lovers push beyond stereotypes, using kicks to be both athletic and sexy, hip and tomboyish, grown and youthful, as they define who they are—and who women can be—on their own terms.

Launching today at Goliath, you can get your copy here.  A peek at the photos on the flip.
