Here’s a lil’ sneak peak of Belle of the Brawl, a freshly-launched label that made its debut at Project, courtesy of the great folks at Hellz. What you’re spying is the top half of a cropped bra top that’s part of a very awesome cut and sewn collection that feels fun and light yet still has a distinct design edge. And no, this does not mean Hellz goes away–the phenomenal collabos and special projects will continue, rather the new label signals designer Lanie B’s own expanded experience and a desire to reflect that with more grown designs. We love the collection AND seeing women making bold moves so we couldn’t be more excited.
We love everything about conceptual jewellery as its application in ‘”real life” can be seen as irrelevant. Inciting curiosity and wonder, challenging the notions of adornment, this weapon-like finger clip (two shown in above image) by Dilan Walpola stands as unique. Though on a side note, we think it would have worked better as one piece–omitting the spike in the back of the hand. To see what we mean look on the flip to see the back side. Available for purchase at Oliveshoppe.
We knew Birkenstock had become quite the item in NYC, but were still taken aback when we visited the Birkenstock booth at Magic’s Platform and were shown a notebook featuring page after page of celebs sporting them, everyone from Heidi Klum to Usher, not to mention newfound popularity with retailers like Anthropologie and Nordstrom. Still, while the Birkenstock rep says the brand is enjoying the attention, the plan is to keep on keeping on and not change to much to accomodate the celebrity attention. After all, Birkenstock has been through this popularity cycle before (last time in the ’90s) and while fame is fleeting, honoring your heritage and not forgetting what brought you to the party is forever.
The MTV Music Awards last night fashion-wise didn’t do much for me so I only have a few celebs here: Kreayshawn (who is currently working a nude pic scandal), Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga posing as a cast member of “Jersey Shore,” Amber Rose, Katy Perry, Skylar Grey and Adele. In Adele’s photo, check the nude, talon mani. Though for a young woman of 23 she her outfit was a tad matronly, no? Whatever, you know how some days you feel so cynical and can’t stand a thing about celebrities? In fact the opposite? Well I am having one of those days. Enjoy the glitter and don’t mind me glowering in the corner.
Beyonce at the MTV Video Music awards last night sort of made it eminently clear she’s with child–no word of when it will arrive or whether it’s a baby Bee or Jay. Given her attachment to keeping her private life private, I’m a tad surprised she made such a public show. Anyways….for Beyonce and all of you who are expecting (especially the anxious first-timers), I wish for you a blessed and beautiful pregnancy and birth.
You know the drill, we’re Snobs so we’re loathe to post up most fashion ads just cuz most of them are yawners and ’sides, why should we do brands’ dirty work for free? Still, this Lanvin promotional video for the Autumn 2011 line is tres adorable because what could be more fun than judging a model’s dancing skills (or better yet, lack thereof)? Elbaz gets in on the act and couldn’t be more huggable!
We are long time fans and supporters of Swedish Hasbeens so how delighted was I when I visited the Platform section of Magic last week, to discover head designer Emy Blixt was manning the booth! There was a sad moment when it was revealed that Blixt’s co-founder, Cecilia Neuman, had passed recently, but we didn’t dwell–not the place after all, and moved on to design and how impressively this young brand had evolved from the vintage clog silhouette that launched it to an array of streety savvy silhouettes. Blixt said the brand had always been most rooted in its materials story and was evolving from using wood to embracing other natural materials like cork and leather soles.
For Spring 2012, natural leathers remain a theme (see above) with fashion themese anchored around vintage sporty looks from the 20s, 30s and 40s, a tribute of sorts to the women who bucked moral dictate during the era and lived active, athletic lives.
See more shoes, bags and a shot of the delightful Blixt on the next page.
A clever juxtaposition of body conscious, experimental silhouettes and signature digital prints, the Belle Sauvage Autumn/Winter 2011 has all the elements of a stand out collection. The leather and lace “LBD” on the right takes the lead. Enjoy the full collection on the flip, and pre-order some of the looks here.
Bape give us a look at their upcoming footwear styles for the ladies–a ballerina and what I would call a pair of very sensible heels. Check their web shop for availability.
