Last night we attended the opening of ‘The Dandy Lion’ at MoCADA. The photography showcase features portraits of stunning black men all over the world as an attempt by the curator Shantrelle P. Lewis, ‘ to challenge notions of popularized urban black masculinity’. On the next page a few images to give you a peek as well as a few attendees. Definitely worth a trip to Brooklyn. July 22 – August 27, 2011 MoCADA, 80 Hanson Place, Brooklyn.
What to wear in the scorching heat? If you take a cue from the desert bedouins , keeping cool is more about loose layers and natural fibers than it is about tight and body conscious. Anything synthetic honestly will have you sweating bullets. On the next page a look at Sca Ulven dresses a young label whose airy dresses do the trick of looking pulled together while providing ample ventilation. The dress above is a preview of Spring’12 Via mafrangine.
This reminds me of Colette’s collaboration with Gap. A great look for Gap that did not a whit for Colette. And in Lagerfeld’s case given his growing rep for being overly collabo-happy with a bunch of makes-no-sense, non-luxury brands it should be viewed as a net-net negative.

Jofama and Edwin have partnered to interpret one of the great apparel classics, tinted with a spirit of rebellion and Americana, the leather jacket. As a nod to aviation the ”Airwoman” bomber features a removable fur collar, luxurious red silk lining and vintage rivets.
In the second installment of its “Women’s Tales” series, Miu Miu collaborated with director Lucrecia Martel on a film noir titled Muta. The film even features a black woman with a ‘fro(!) Noteworthy because as much as we’ve admired Miuccia ’s creativity since the inception of her brands, diversity in ads and presentation has been very rare. Not that it is common among her contemporaries, however, as a pioneer of out-of-the-box style and individualism, more diversity we believe would increase the already hot factor of the Prada and Miu Miu brands tenfolds, especially that now investors are watching.
Each nail of this set really could be it’s own theme. The kiwi thumb is a favorite. Take a look on the next page for a closer look at each hand.Via the Illustrated nail.
