As dawn breaks, sunlight is captured by the mist, slowly revealing the bright summer colors of morning daylight.The collection visually guides us through the story, starting with 21st century chastity belts with distressed embroidery in an effort to ban all light from life in a fetish caricature of upper class conservatism and the need felt to hide the true self.The escape, feeling insecure and lost at first, hazy colors and hints of light to later be followed by the discovery of freedom, color and light, translated in contemporary unrestrictive cuts and vivid colors.

The funny thing about trends and their temporary state is that those who’ve rocked the item or have had a certain style for a long time find themselves often times reluctantly in the middle of the trend’s “it” moment. Trends in themselves are fun. They illustrate shifts in fashion consciousness, and of society as a whole.   So, yes feathers in the hair are a thing. Done for a longtime by many who’ ve had them as a signature, but now more than ever cool with how-to videos galore. Rather then go on at length on the fascination of  fashion trend observation and talk, however, I’d rather you enjoy the little clip of Fine Featherheads for this Summer.

The 5th Annual Independent Hangbag Designer Awards took place last Thursday, an event that was extra special for us since we were on the preliminary judging committment. There were a total of eight awards with the Best Handbag in Overall Style and Design going to Fabiola Pedrazzini. The banana bag above by Yanique Moore–inspired by Josephine Baker, natch–was entered in the Best Use of Swarovski Elements and while it didn’t win the big prize, it definitely won our hearts, though it was hard not to fall in love with all the designers there!
