Vans is hooking up again with streetwear label Hellz on a second collaboration that includes 90s-inspired creepers (above), buckle boots, and bags. The interesting twist is that the launch party will take place at Vans flagship store in Manila (that’s in the Phillipines if you’re geographically challenged like me) later this month. Nice work, ladies!
Beyonce is looking good on the cover of Dazed & Confused magazine.
That out of the away, I’m wondering…was Beyonce’s album, 4, leaked accidentally-on-purpose because it’s looking like a tanker?? (”Girls” was just okay and “Best Thing I Never Had” is almost unlistenable, and I say that as a fan of her and her music.) From what I read sales of “Girls” disappointed so maybe you leak and then blame subsequent poor sales on that rather than poor content? Is that how stuff is done in the music industry? It’s one of the shadiest businesses on the planet so I wouldn’t be surprised.
The buzz grows louder for songstress Kreayshawn, who was recently interviewed by our friends at Karmaloop TV. The chat took place shortly after she was signed by Columbia Records, which will release “Gucci Gucci” as her first single.
She starts off the interview by providing the correct pronunciation of her name and discusses despositing the advance from Columbia Records with an account balance of $170 and how she always grew up “extremely broke” and with her new money might buy “Cup of Noodles instead of Top Ramen because it comes with a cup….a little fancy.” She also opines on the history and the future of the word swag: “There’s going to be new words but I think swags gonna be….I can’t stop it. I’ve sat and tried to think of words I can replace it with but I can’t…swag.”
If you’re interesting in knowing more, here’s a good interview, in which she lists her mom (a lead guitarists in a few different punk bands), The Spice Girls and Missy Elliots as big influencers.
For the venice art bienniale 2011, the korean pavilion is presenting 14 multimedia works by artist lee yongbaek in an exhibition titled, ‘the love is gone but the scar will heal.’ with works in video, photography, sculpture and painting, the show explores identity and existentialism amid the artifice of contemporary society.
‘angel soldier’ is a video performance in what appears to be a floral landscape, set to the calm sounds of nature.
at first sight, it seems to be a still image, but upon closer inspection, the heavily florid picture separates before the eyes as an optical illusion, revealing three-dimensional flowers in the foreground and, behind, a soldier slowly creeping along, masked in the print’s camouflage.
On the next page stills of the art piece via designboom.Of course the sartorial element of this piece has our heart as well.
Solving the issue of what to wear on a hot night on the town, this vintage crochet dress, named El Diablo is definitely one to be noticed. Available at Spanishmoss.
Kudos to Henry Holland, for using the music and styling from Neneh Cherry’s much-loved ”Buffalo Stance” video to inspire both the brand’s presentation and Pre-Spring 2012 collection. Presentation aside, the fashion happens to be pretty great, too, featuring a lot of stripes that feel Rasta inspired, but as though living on 5th Ave. NYC, as opposed to the island of Jamaica.
The model is Eliza Cummings and check out a screen capture of the stripey nail art on the next page, with credit going to ultra-talented nail artist Sophy Robson .
“No money man can win my love, it’s sweetness that I’m thinking of…..”
Took the subway into the City this morning with Samia to chat sneakers with someone from a certain powerhouse brand and Samia mentioned on the train that the fashion internets were somewhat freaking about Kim wearing the above cutout Gucci dress, which is from the label’s Spring 2011 collection. It’s been worn not just by her, but by a bunch of other celebs and has landed some covers, too.
When I got home, indeed, her look was getting a lot of mentions. And I’ll be honest, like anyone else I suffer from Kardashian fatigue from time to time, but I always appreciate how these girls continue to bump up against the rules of what’s supposedly appropriate in fashion. So keep doing your thing, Ms. Kardashian, and fill out every inch of that outfit and look very damn sexy doing so.
The lovely Cassie is featured in this month’s Nylon magazine, which has a music theme. She photographed in the above image pre-both-sides-of-head shaved—still as pretty as can be. Here’s what she says about her current, personal style:
“Right now I’m in my tomboy jeans. I wear my Jordans and flannel shirts.”
Cassie, we are so with you on that, so over trying to squeeze into straight legs. More horribly watermarked images on the next page.
Just spotted the news of Hussein Chalayan launching a diffusion grey line with plans to re-brand his namesake label as simply Chalayan. The diffusion line will be available in September and of course we’ll be following its launch closely. About the name change Chalayan had this to say:
I had been thinking about it for a while, and I’m doing it mostly because I have a long name,” he explained. “Now people can focus on one word. On a graphic level, it’s much clearer and easier to remember.”
