Introducing: Marika Vera Lingerie

13 June 2011, 15.25 | Posted in Fashion, lingerie | No comments »

Highsnobette Marika Vera-1st page

The sub-theme of Marika Vera’s sultry lingerie line is “Better than Naked,” a statement in favor of seduction and natural sensuality, in lieu of  full exposure. The lingerie to our delight does not disappoint with lightweight pieces in luxurious materials devoid of excessive frills and adornment and thankfully  no bows(!) Yes the Snobettes love and covet. On the next page a closer look at Marika Vera via Weareselecters.

Highsnobette-Reed Krakoff3

More than ever we strongly advocate for investing in colorful shoes and sandals in sleek slihouettes. Matching  used to be de rigueur, however, over the years the idea of contrast has gained more acceptance as a fun way to make an outfit pop and we luvs it ! Reed Krakoff’s sandals are a great place to start. Available at net-a-porter.

Louis Vuitton Bags Smaller Than Ever

Louis Vuitton Bags Smaller Than Ever

Louis Vuitton showed its Resort 2012 collection a couple days back and like we always do we zeroed in on the bags and ignored the backdrop clothing. The trend toward smaller bags clearly has yet to hit a wall with a couple styles so microscopic even Carine Roitfeld would like them!

Women In Heels In A Swimming Pool By Jill Greenberg

JillGreenbergGlassCeiling Women In Heels In A Swimming Pool By Jill Greenberg

Photographer Jill Greenberg is currently showing an exhibit of high-heel-themed photographs at Clamp Art in New York. The twist as you can see in the image above is that the women are wearing the shoes while in a swimming pool. The press describing the show explains:

In 2008, Greenberg was commissioned to shoot a commercial fashion shoot with the US Olympic Synchronized Swim Team, which included two setups calling for high heels. The artist was struck by the absurdity of the styling. The swimmers wear stilettos, which are meant to heighten sexuality, but in reality, restrict movement and impose a lack of controL. Greenberg depicts the tension of her models coming to the surface gasping for air while wrestling with the weight of the water as a metaphor for the role women must play in the outside world.

It’s an interesting take on women’s fashion with a lot of merit, though I find in general the feminist view on fashion tends to be overly focused on the negative and ignores the satisfaction and joy that can come from it, not to mention the freedom women enjoy versus men when it comes to choosing how to present themselves to the world.

Video: Chloe Sevigny For Opening Ceremony Resort 2012

10 June 2011, 17.37 | Posted in Designer Collaboration, Runway Show | No comments »

We showed some images from Chloe Sevigny’s Resort 2012 collection for Opening Ceremony yesterday, and here is a video of the show. I read somewhere that the a.c. where the show took place wasn’t functioning properly, which total poor timing since it was about a billion degrees in New York when this show took place. As such, a lot of the entertainment value is watching everyone sweating their asses off and doing their best to contain nerves frayed by the heat. Watch Chloe especially as her normally deadpan way of dealing with the world rachets up ten notches.

J.Cole Sing’s Tupac’s “Aint Mad At Cha”

10 June 2011, 16.12 | Posted in Music, celebrity | No comments »

Killing you with videos today, I know, but had to share the deliciousness of J. Cole crooning Tupac’s “Aint Mad At Cha,” at the 2011 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee, recently. Somehow him singing Tupac manages to up his hotness factor even more, plus it helps that he’s one of those guys that looks even sexier when he sweats (not all are!). Though next time take your shirt off J., and let the air cool you down–we won’t be made at cha! Via.
