Making Of The Chanel ‘2.55′ Bag

ChanelBagProduction Making Of The Chanel 2.55 Bag

Chanel gives an inside look at the making of its famous 2.55 bag. The image here is one of the final photos so if you’re a fan of what goes into making an iconic bag, Trendland has more. The pics are also accompanied by text, which includes how the bag was named:

In 1929 Mademoiselle Chanel was the first to introduce an elegant version of the shoulder bag. It did already exist, in the form of a large pouch with a wide strap, but was only used by members of the military on campaign. Women discovered, to their delight, that by using a thin strap they could walk around with their hands free. A new fashion was born. From then on, Mademoiselle Chanel constantly used this idea, until she eventually created the bag commonly known as the “2.55” (which is in fact its date of birth) in February 1955.

Interesting that straps weren’t a part of bags until Coco Chanel came along!

I find the recent publicity moves made by Barney’s new regime to be quite interesting. The choice of Daphne Guinnesslive window dressing for the Met Gala, for example we definitely see as an attempt to add an avant garde edge to the well-loved New York department store. Can’t wait to see what the next moves will be…

AW4 360x540 Alexander McQueen Exhibit At the Metropolitan Museum

We’ve showed the red carpet for the party that opened Alexander McQueen’s ”Savage Beauty” retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and in this post we give a look at the exhibit itself. In general images from museum shows don’t do them justice. My experience is you have to be immersed in the environment to catch the artist’s greatness. Still, this is a nice taste for those whom a trip to New York is out of the question.

AMSarahBurton 340x540 Alexander McQueen Event Turns Out Amazing Red Carpet

The opening party for Alexander McQueen’s “Savage Beauty” retrospective at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art took place last night and the red carpet was an amazing parade of tributes to McQueen’s signature fierce style. Choosing just one favorite was impossible so we went with Sarah Burton, who now heads the label and thus far has so nobly filled the very grand shoes of the departed McQueen.

After the flip images of over 60 attendees, ranging from HS fave, Rihanna, to Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs to everyone you could imagine in between. Enjoy the pageantry!

Sergiorossi Caligola

One of yours truly’s  fashion resolutions was to really open my mind to wearing color. Editorially the brighter the better, however, the truth of my closet is a large quantity of all black everything .  Taking a step in a bold direction, shoes in  bright colors feel so much more feasible than clothing, hence the strong attraction to Sergio Rossi’s “Caligola” sandals. Modern, sexy to the tenth power and…..colorful! Available here.

RihannaMacysReblFleur Rihannas Fragrance Rebl Fleur A Big Hit

However you may feel about her music, Rihanna is undeniably a numbers mover. Here she is at a recent appearance at Macy’s Herald Square to hawk her perfume Reb’l Fleur. Currently the perfume is sold at more than 5,000 doors, and in Macy’s 500 doors, it’s “consistentlyremained in a top 10 women’s fragrance at [the chain] since its launch,” according to an article in today’s WWD. Fred Purches, CEO of Parlux Fragrances, which holds the Reb’l Fleur license had this to say about the young entertainer:

“Rihanna brings a lot of energy and a lot of people. It boosts sales but it’s also about the resonance afterwards.”

One more shot after the flip of Rihanna in what has become a signature for her, beige Christian Louboutin “Pigalle” pumps.
