A lot of labels are beginning to deliver their summer collections, with Tory Burch previewing hers in a Summer lookbook. A lot of what Burch designs can be described as Upper East Side Bohemia (which we don’t view as a bad thing–au contraire!) though she does turn that formula on its head sometimes, drops the airs and goes for straight fierceness, case in point these “Tarlen” rope wedges we spotted in the lookbook…love the red wedge against the thick ropes tipped with shiney, gold aglets.

When you imagine a piece of clothing that you believe should be designed, one that should actually exist in reality, you pause. Fueled by our streetwear roots, we constantly dream of things like fierce, next level activewear. The media storm continues with Beyonce now showing up on the June issue of W magazine. As for her fashion look for this media-blitz go round, there seems to be a reoccuring disco theme a la Marc Jacob’s Spring 2011 runway. Via Tfs.

I saw these last weekend in the Madewell windows and have been thinking about them ever since.  They’re not my usual knee-jerk-luv shoes, but  paired with the casual standards of white  denim, tees and of course chambray they just work. Then again it could just be that hanging around my buddies  from the Jcrew men’s shop is rubbing off of me? Mickey Drexler and Jenna Lyons have me looking at sensible heels now? Lady Gaga’s column for V magazine (above is the cover) debuted today. Thecut provides the link to the entire missive. Here is one excerpt from the column, which this month is titled “Piet Mondrian & Libary Cards”:

“Any writer or anyone for that matter, who doesn’t understand the last two sentences of this column should NEVER be writing or critiquing fashion or artists in publication. As someone who references and annotates her work vigilantly, I’m putting all of you on notice. I’ve done my homework, have you? Where are your library cards. Did they expire?”

As of late, Gaga has come off as very defensive about her music choices and now she expands that posture to her take on fashion. Granted, the level of criticism hurled daily at this woman is over the top, but someone should let her know that no one is insisting she be a music or fashion Einstein at the age of 25. She can have good instincts combined with a lusty intellectual curiosity and that’s enough.

Given her elite educational background (tuition per year at Sacred Heart High School where she attended is $35,600/year), it’s hard not to wonder if her I’m-better-informed-than-you-are attitude wasn’t fostered during her teens, when academic competition was no doubt super fierce with an abundance of “tracked students” vying for a very limited number of seats in Ivy colleges. If that’s the case, we can probably look forward to being schooled/scolded by Gaga on a monthly basis–can’t wait!

Not much beats the fashion flashiness created by a well-placed scarf, and this one, called “Patrick” by Lucy Jay is that much more extra thanks to splasy colors and a slightly-retro-feeling graphic print. Via Notjustalabel.
