Maison Martin Margiela has issued a video illustrating its Spring/Summer 2011 eyewear offerings. There are two styles, “Anatomic,” an enlarged rounded shape that envelopes the face and “Wrong Size,” which features lenses that don’t quite fit the frame. In a clever presentation befitting this artful brand, the glasses are shown on a graphic that mimics an eye chart. Via Anyonegirl.
Designer Ronnie Fieg is well-known for his men’s design collaborations, but he’s also dabbled a bit with women’s. We love this collaboration with Sebago, which Fieg was inspired to do thanks to repeated requests from his Mom and sister. We think the world of Fieg anyway, but we also appreciate that someone is putting some sweat into creating quality, casual brown shoe designs for women. Yes, we have flats galore, but in the realm of menswear-inspired leather shoes, there is a dearth. Available for purchase now on Ronniefieg.
Newly-installed Paris Vogue Editor, Emmanuelle Alt, has turned to Kate Moss for her second cover, the May issue. (Giselle grabbed cover No. 1 for those of you not keeping up.) It’s still early on, but clearly Alt is turning to establishment heavy hitters to lay down her foundation. This will be viewed more or less as a misstep by the Carine Roitfeld faithful (count us as a member), though it could mean bigger sales in the long run. As for the cover itself with everyone reaching for a piece of Moss, meh, more like lately she’s handing it out with reckless abandon to whomever comes along with a big enough paycheck.
Coach yesterday hosted a charity event for which the B- and even a few A-lister celebs turned out big time. What was interesting to note is that almost everyone carried a clutch(that’s Zoe Saldana’s above). Some of them are clearly Coach, though I’m not sure if all of them are. I’m guessing yes, since Wireimage dedicated an entire page to closeups on the bags. Which, go ‘head, Coach–you certainly wouldn’t be the first company to make a product push a part of your fundraiser.
Additional clutch shots on the next page, including Scarlett Johansson, Rashida Jones, Joy Bryant, Ellen Pompeo, Anna Farris and many more.
Lady Gaga presents “Gagavision” No. 43, discussing the creative process behind her recent singles “Judas” and “Born This Way.” She also does a lot of flashing of her ruby red, talon manicure, which, if somehow she gets credited for being the one who “discovered” this shape, we’re going to be fighting. Gaga may be its biggest celebrity launchpad, but the talon shape has been around for more than a minute before she started sporting it.
Here is the audio for Beyonce’s first single, “Run The World (Girls),” from her next album. Clearly she is attempting to push her appeal beyond r&b and pop, which won’t be easy given the depth of her roots in those genres, not to mention her status as a proper married lady, a Southern Belle no less. It’s one thing if Rihanna writes a song called “S&M,” visits sex shops and parties all night at clubs with the “Kids,” not so easy if you’ve basically painted yourself as a good girl. That being said, like Lady Gaga and Rihanna, Beyonce is one of those artists who is not just a work horse, but is backed by an incredibly well-organized machine so whatever the merits of this single, it will be pushed very hard.
Titled “Impossibility of Love,” Void of Course launches its second collection for Autumn/Winter 2011. The women’s collection blends elements of overt sexuality and bondage to create looks that are dark and of course provocative. Tailored silhouettes, cut-outs and sex toys for heels on the next page.
