Heimstone Tie Dye & Lace Jumpsuits

Paris-based Heimstone had a great line for Spring/Summer 2011, featuring an array of fashionable yet laid back summer looks, which can go from day to night with a change of shoes. The jumpsuits featured here are a highlight. There’s a lot of fabric in a head-to-toe garment like this and Heimstone nails the look by using lightweight fabrics that show the body without encasing it. See a couple more variations on the next page.

Gwyneth New Face Of Coach

GwenythPaltrowUKInStyleApril Gwyneth New Face Of Coach

It was rumored last week that Gwyneth Paltrow was working on a deal to become the new face of Coach. That rumored has been confirmed today by WWD. Ads have already been shot by Peter Lindbergh and will show up in print, digital and outdoor ads in Asia, Europe and China. This is not her first bag gig, a couple years back she was the face of Tod’s. Said Paltrow on the deal,

“I grew up in New York City and I’ve always thought of Coach as the quintessential New York brand. I’ll never forget getting my first Coach bag.”

Paltrow is a funny celebrity. Lately it seems she’s been working hard to soften her image and seem more relatable, but for whatever reason she seems to bring out anger in people. She may just be the nicest person personally, but something about how she projects to the world rubs lots of people the wrong way. That being said, somehow this endorsement makes sense for Coach. It’s interesting, too, how the ads will be shown everywhere else but the United States….maybe she translates better in other cultures!

Schmidttakahashi At $H!T Happens Berlin Exhibition

b9 359x540 Schmidttakahashi At $H!T Happens Berlin Exhibition

Taking part in the $hit Happens Berlin Exhibition is berlin based label Schmidttakahashi whose work serves as a reaction to the mass-production of clothing,   with a direct  focus on  the more personal aspect of clothes and their wearers.

Their collections consist of materials taken from donated second-hand clothes, and every donor receives a donation ID number so that they can follow the new life of their discarded clothes. Every item collected is documented and saved in their archive. They then dismantle and reassemble the old clothes, forming completely new outfits, but ensuring that the way in which the individual garments were previously used, and the identity of their respective owners are still recognisable. An RFID-chip containing all the information about the different materials and individual items of clothing used in a piece is sewn into every new garment. In parallel to the RFID technology, schmidttakahashi also provide a platform on their website by which both the donors and new owners can discover and understand the transformation process. Should pieces of their collections end up back in their donated clothes pile, then they too will be reworked again. A family tree thus arises which makes recycled products more and more attractive.

View images of the apparel on the flip , and access more information about the  Berlin Happens exhibit here.

Lady Gaga Getting Her ‘Born This Way’ Tattoo

LadyGagaTattoo1 Lady Gaga Getting Her Born This Way Tattoo

An image recently surfaced of Lady Gaga getting her “Born This Way” tattoo at Becca Roach’s studio in New York. She got the tattoo last fall so it’s not new art. You can’t see it in this pic but the original tattoo is a unicorn, who–like all magical creatures of his ilk–was born with a big horn coming out of the middle of his handsome forehead. Close ups on the tat on the next page.

(And honestly, I didn’t realize this was an old tat until I was halfway through the post and had I know that from the start I wouldn’t have posted such moldy news, but then again, the pic of her getting it is new and a lot of you love Gaga so…..a little prezzy for the fans.)

Converse Prom Sneakers

ConverseProm1 Converse Prom Sneakers

A cute idea whose time is long past due–sneakers for prom. We’ve been harping on this for a while, but for women in their teens and twenties (and thirties, forties and up if they’re on the progressive side), sneakers are a part of their fashion wardrobe. And it’s funny, too, as much as we feature sky-high heels (see previous post!), I’ve been noticing lately in my travels around New York that one of the defining characteristics of younger women is that they do not wear much in the way of heels. Tons of military boots, canvas lace-ups and flats, but not much past half an inch. Via Glamour.

A couple more styles on the next page, more at Converse.   Read more
