Pin Ups: From Real Girl To Illustration

This series of before-and-after pin-up women is already causing a lot of buzz , with a lot of attention being paid to how the bodies were modified. It’s fascinating yes–the early days of airbrush is how some are describing it, but it’s also fun to key in on the fashion, hair and makeup and what parts of the body were drawn out for emphasis. Looking at the entire set, we notice short hair, wasp waists, and most intriguingly, how every foot is posed to show a high arch….foot fetish back in the day much?? As well, all the girls are white, which makes me wonder if there exists anywhere pin-up women of color. Via Hairpin (where the analysis is all about “genesis of the kiss face”).
A couple more on the next page, with the full series at Buzzfeed.
