Video: Hussein Chalayan Making Of Autumn/Winter 2011
Designer Hussein Chalayan as sponsored by Swarovski, presented his Autumn 2011 collection in the form of a film, featuring a floating dress. Inspired by Japan and its evolution from a closed off country to one more receptive to outside ideas, the presentation is called “Kaikoku,” which translates to open country. In this video, the designer explains the creative process. It’s fascinating because unlike a lot of artists Chalayan is quite articulate in explaining his ideas, and it makes one realize that so much of the success of artists is not only that they have other worldly visions, but they are able to make them a reality because they’re not deterred or simply don’t care if everyone else thinks they seem crazy or strange.
