For most fashion lovers, Fendi bags and furs are always high on the covet list. For Autumn, the flat-front remains the bag silhouette du jour, while furs take on the relaxed appearance of a robe one might throw on while entertaining good friends. It’s an equation that’s turned on its head by the fur itself which is anything but laid back, but rather bold and very rock ‘n’ roll. More on the next page.
We were all mesmerized by their collaboration last year, but this Spring, clutch the pearls . United Nude and Iris van Herpen have taken ou breath away with chains and weaving that makes us want to be their fashion slaves:
Two versions of a sculptural high-heeled platform ankle bootie: the first, a complex weave of leather lace detailing; the second, elegantly draped with thin chains. The intricacy and precision of these creations require them to be 100% hand crafted in the most luxurious of leathers. The 100 limited edition pairs will retail at $995 and will be available in Black, Off White and Tan. More images on the next page courtesy of United Nude.
Watch the full-length version for Lady Gaga’s latest single, “Born This Way.” It features a very lengthy intro and will no doubt be the most buzz-worthy item of the day.
As we wish the red carpet opinion was not so adverse to edgy, more experimental silhouettes, the beauty of Omer Asim’s Spring 2011 collection is a fluid example of wearbility, glamour with of course some sexy thrown in, definitely a hit in our book. Luxury-label Yves Saint Laurent is preparing to distribute the eighth edition of its Manifesto, a sort of ultra-exclusive YSL lookbook, on the streets of Paris, New York, London, Milan, Tokyo and Hong Kong, and for the first time, Los Angeles. It will be handed out on March 5th and those lucky enough to land it will also be the recipient of a YSL tote (shown above) in which the publication is contained. The images contained in Manifesto will first be shown on YSL on the 4th and then handed out to random passerbys in each city the following day. Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, it features Arizona Muse, the face of the label’s Spring/Summer 2011 campaign. Via Tokyodandy.
We’re not usually big promoters of black shoes, we find that in cities like New York, women tend to have too many black shoes when the possibilities are endless. Even an all black everything devotee like yours truly has a pair of bright blue pumps. Anyway, I digress. Sophia Grace , the recent winner of Browns shoe competition recently launched her shoe collection at Browns. The Butterfly heels stood out as a whimsical reminder of the warm weather days we are desperately fiending for. Available at Browns.
In the latest update on designer John Galliano, who was suspended last week by Christian Dior because of accusations he made anti-Semetic comments, we just spotted the above video on Fashioncopious (more details there on the case), in which Galliano is filmed making venemous comments, including “I love Hitler,” at La Perle restaurant in Paris, where the incident between Galliano and some nearby diners was said to take place. [UPDATE: Apparently this video is a separate incident from the one that led to his suspension though they both took place at La Perle.] It’s really quite sickening and sort of heartbreaking so be warned before you hit play.
We had commented on Friday that major corporations put people on the chopping block for often whimish reasons, but had they seen this video it was clear they had good reason to suspend Galliano.
Our favortie gown on the red carpet for the Academy Awards was worn by Brazilian-born model and girlfriend of Matthew McConaughey, Camila Alves. It helps of course that she is a professional beauty, but really the neckline of this dress (even if the skirt is a bit much) and the glossy black color against her skin, plus her perfect hair, makeup and accessories are what make for a total gorgeous package. Heidi Klum as always look fantastic, but she was dressed for a viewing party hosted by Elton John and wasn’t an official Oscar red carpet walker. Some fashion site last week had hinted that celebs this year were ready to be inspired by Lady Gaga’s more adventerous style and as such there would be plenty for Joan Rivers to mock, but alas, everyone must have chickened out at the last minute because gown choices were as conservative as ever.
More images on the next page including Heidi Klum, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Kate Blanchett, Marisa Tomei and a few others.
Upon recommendation of Jason Ascher from Barney’s NY, we had the opportunity to test out Eve Lom Cream Cleanser. Having super sensitive skin that literally reacts to everything, I was hesitant. Especially since I’ve been a devoted Khiel’s girl for years. Like a mini facial in a jar, the blend of chamomile, eucalyptus and cocoa cream, used with the provided muslin cloth, cleans without stripping your skin dry, leaving you with a fresh sensation of well being. Yes, I am now hooked. Available at Barneys.
