We gave you a little taste of New-York-based nail artist, Maki Sakamotao, a while back, and now we go more in depth with her background and an in depth look at work from her portfolio. The title nail artist is appropriate for her because she has the gift of talent combined with creativity that lifts her above her peers. She can put down a complex design as well as anyone, but her signature is more in her details and where and how she places a stud or stone so that her work has artistic symmetry and depth that draws one in. A stunning cover for Lara Stone wearing Gucci for the February issue of Vogue Paris, which unabashedly celebrates her alien beauty, highlighting all that makes her special and amazing and more than just another pretty blonde. It’s her second-best cover shot, in our humble opinion, with the first also being Vogue Paris, the October 2010 issue. Via Fashionfoiegras. And one has to wonder…..is this Carine Roitfeld’s swan song cover? If yes, she’s going out with quite the bang.

Here is the first clip of Gwen Stefani for L’Oreal, hawking a lipstick range called “Infallible Le Rouge,” which supposedly holds for 10 hours. It plays off of Stefani’s signature beauty look–cherry red lips against bright white hair, with music from her “Hollaback Girl” single playing in the background. It’s a great ad, but see if you don’t think she comes off a little stiff in a couple spots.

The Golden Globe Awards took place last night and from a fashion perspective it was the usual snore fest. Beautiful, gorgeously made gowns with a heavy emphasis on peach and beige hues (or black), but if one didn’t know better, one would conclude these were images taken at a high-end fancy pants wedding. Seal and Heidi Klum (above), both in Marc Jacobs stood out, but then again, her roots are fashion not Hollywood. After the flip, our fave wedding party gowns, which are labeled with the name of the designer.

In an ad featuring actress Leighton Meester (check her at 00:49), Missoni makes the most of its color and geometrics in a video that’s fun, artsy and inclusive.

Vans recently got together with actress Lucy Hale for a casual photo shoot at its Irvine, Calif., store. Hale is best known for her role in the tv series “Pretty Little Liars.” In this image, she’s wearing one of our favorite 2010 launches from Vans, the Sophie saddle shoe. This comes via Vansgirlsblog. First re-discovered by Opening Ceremony thanks to its uber-authentic heritage credentials (140 years old AND a connection with Native Americans), Pendleton is having a moment and then some. So good for it for capitalizing via a first-time comtemporary collection, titled “The Portland Collection.” According to WWD:

The graphic Harding pattern shown on sturdy wool coats and raglan-sleeved jackets is named after a scarf the Cayuse and Umatilla tribes presented former first lady Florence Harding in 1923, while the earthy plaids on simple button-downs and tops got their origins in the same checked shirts the Beach Boys wore on the cover of their first album, “Surfin’ Safari,” in 1962.
