Yes, we just did a post on this collection in the last post, but so charmingly perfect were the polish offerings we thought they deserved a separate post. So here you go. The one on the left is called “Biker Blue” featuring a black base with purple and blue pearl flecks. And the white one is called “Frayed-To-Order,” a white matte with pink pearl flecks. Would love to see how the white looks on the nail. It seems so perfect for Spring.
MAC was inspired by the look and feel denim (including shadows embossed with denim details!) for its spring collection, titled “Jeanius,” which is indeed so genius that it leads one to wonder if this could really be the first time a major makeup company was inspired by one of the most ubiquitous fabrics on the planet. The eyeshadow, lipstick, lipgloss and nail polish are all pearl, featuring metallic flecks of copper, silver, gold, pink depending on the item. Info on composition and pricing at Temptalia. Futher riffing on the ballet trend opened wide bythe movie Black Swan, Opening Ceremony offers a video titled Pas De Deux Coda, featuring Joffrey Ballet School dancers wearing their own practice clothes, along with designs by Opening Ceremony and Repetto shoes.
Kim Kardashian is burning up the web with her newest hairstyle, but new braids or not, she’s still working her Birken bag, whose status among celebrities has been on a non-stop rise this year. Like the reality tv game they play or not, the Kardashians represent a new Amercian beauty standard…yep, still based on fantasy and impossible for most to achieve but somehow warmer, funner and more inclusive than those of years past. Will the fashion industry play catch up in the year 2011? Looking at the models chosen to walk the runways by leaders like Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs, one can’t help but be hopeful.
One of our favorites, the magnifique Anita Quansah, releases her latest Spring 2011 collection as well as her inspirations which we of course Luv! The woman with the gold headpiece on the flip is her own Mama (aww). Enjoy a closer look on the next page via Shopliqorice. Note to self, I need a samburu beaded head piece this summer…
Another spirit that also can take over you this New Year’s eve is the one of giving the finger to 2010. Being grateful for the good but also angrily manifesting( been said to be therapeutic) and letting go of the all the drama this year has seen, the losses, the broke status many have experienced, and just flat out aggravation (the list goes on). Massimo Dogana, a man after our own hearts, lets you express it in style via the “F-U” shoes. View the slides on the next page. All available here.
New years bring many wishes of joy, peace, love but also abundance! A great talisman to usher it in would be the “Abundance” necklace worn by married Samburu women to show their wealth, and status. Call it bling Samburu style while the “Pride” necklace we interpret as the pride of being a woman (available here ) is made by “mothers and given to their daughters to enhance their beauty and accentuate their purity. Rising up with each concentric ring like the volcanic cones in Samburu country, this necklace contains all the elements of Samburu culture: red for blood – the symbol of life, green is the color of prayer and of grass for cattle, blue for the desert skies, and black for the Samburu’s dark skin. A Samburu woman is rarely without this stunning piece.” Made in the village of Umoja , view “Pride” on the next page. With all the Afro-inspired fashions we’ve seen on the runways we figure that looking at the real thing is if anything appropriate, and of course Highsnobette approved.
Candy magazine, a “transversal style magazine,” is featuring a very funny Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington themed editorial titled “The Devil Wears Anna.” More than just beautifully shot images, the editorial is well thought out and hilariously well-acted by Andres Borque and Luis Venegas who take on the part of the two Vogue editors. And according to Frockwriter where we lifted this images from, this issue actually came out in October and also featured Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani, and blogger Tavi Gevinson plus others, but is just now hitting the internets after being scanned by Homotography.
Louboutin showed some beige, kitten-heel spike pumps earlier this year and for spring he’s showing more in the same vein, only this time the heel is higher and the shoe includes a bow detail. The colors are different, too, olive on this page and white (!) on the next. Via Style.
