Monkey down! To publicize Pixelshow’s October 2010 conference in San Paolo, Brazil, the organization had local students construct a sleeping monkey out of 10,000 of Brazil’s most iconic shoe, the flip-flop, used to simulate pixels. Designed by urban artist Florentijn Hofman, the sculpture has since become known as Fat Monkey, aka Macaco Gordo. Via Fokis. More fallen monkey images after the flip.
As part of its superstar theme for the December issue of Vogue U.K., the magazine called on photographer Mario Testino for an editorial titled “Star Girls,” which features many of the industry’s heaviest hitting beauties, including Kate, Moss (above), Angela Lindvall, Claudia Schiffer, Freja Beha Erichsen, Lara Stone (after the flip), Stella Tennant (after the flip), Georgia May Jagger, and a bunch more. Following on the heels of its first U.S. retail location in Miami, Lanvin yesterday held a charity runway show (in what appears to be largely resort 2011) for Project, a neonatal intensive care facility. Perhaps inspired by Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 show, the runway featured nightclub lighting and the clothes featured spoke to what designer Alber Elbaz is so perfect at–designing modern chic looks that look and feel lush and are capable of being worn by a woman of any age. Elbaz seems not to worship women, as much as appreciate their complexity and mystery. And like a great athlete, he makes it all look rather effortless and easy to do. Though if there is any drawback to the show, it’s that the gorgeous garments remind how much of a great divide exists between the runway and what is about to be offered up by H&M. The Autumn issue of French culture magazine Blast features Chloe Sevigny on its cover and gets some editing contribution from superstar fashion retailer Colette. Don’t know a thing about this publication but the cover is certainly captivating! Via Colette.
For the Spring 2011 season Timberland introduces a set of new safari-inspired styles under their Earthkeepers label. The collection of breathable, rugged footwear is made of the newly-launched Bionic canvas, a unique material made from organic cotton wrapped around a recycled core, making it stronger than regular canvas, plus water and stain repellent. LuLu Kennedy, she of Far East Fame (a collective created to promote young talent), recently launched LuLu & Co, a fashion label consisting of key pieces Fashion East designers have produced since the program began in 2000. The dress featured here is a collaborative effort with House of Holland being sold at Colette. There are eight more designer collaborations at the site with Kennedy, but this one stood out as a piece so timelessly artful you’d keep it forever or at least until you could pass it on to your daughter.
