I’m always puzzled when men’s labels venture into the women’s market, and think that they have to transform their sleek heritage feel into something overly girlishness, totally forsaking what made them cool in the fisrt place. Gladly by the look of their women’s collection the good people at Penfeld took the high road and simply adapted their styles to women’s shapes, keeping the rugged cool factor that we go to them for. We found via graffiti artist TooFly that our pals at Femalesneakerfiend are working on publishing “Girls Got Kicks,” a book featuring female sneaker lovers from around the globe. The book will feature a combination of shots by Amanda Lopez (who shot TooFly above) plus images sent in from collectors.  Lopez and Lori Lobenstine, founder of FSF, were recently interviewed by Sneakerfreaker and Lobenstine had this to say about women who collect, “It’s pretty easy to like kicks if you’re a guy. But if you’re a girl with a sick collection you’re going to face-down some folks who really doubt you. So I love female sneaker fiends for that glint in their eye, that swagger in their step and the extra knowledge they have to have for when guys assume they don’t.” Yes, we agree! And on that note, were any of you remember our pre-HS days when we were known as Chickswithkicks??

There is no nail artist in all the land–that I have come across anyway–whose designs are as consistantly meticulous and perfect as those by blogger Michele of Laquerized. Here she tries out her first water marble manicure. It’s an incredibly complicated process, in that it involves dipping taped up fingers one by one in a cup of water with a swirl of polishes floating on top. See for yourself in a tutorial, which is embedded after the flip.

Rye Rye’s “Sunshine” video has arrived and it’s a fun one–very Brooklyn in its feel, it features bicycles, jump roping and ’round the way ladies getting down. For the fashionistas, there are high-waisted denim shorts, oxfords and hiking boots, plus M.I.A.’s anti-shout out to Google.

Fashion photographer Julia Chesky likes to refer to her images of high-end shoes as “shoe porn,” with the latest addition to her portfolio of window shots a bittersweet one–a pair of shoes from the final Alexander McQueen line designed by McQueen himself.  If graffiti were to become fashion, I imagine it looking  like Alexis Reyna’s Spring 2011 collection, which mixed color and texture to create a very unique collection entitled “Unleashed,”  anchored on dramatic paint splattered bodies.
