The MTV Video Music Awards is still in progress, and the show seems a little flatter than usual. Though it’s as consistently unfunny as it’s always been, that’s for sure. As far as celebs go, there is very much a broken record/usual suspects feel: Katy Perry flashing her mani, Lady Gaga with a whacky head piece, Rihanna looking avant guard…blah, blah, blah. Definitely have a peek at Will.I.Am’s get up….a stumper. More looks after the flip.

The video of Alex Wang’s show was live-streamed and if you missed that you can now watch the replay at Milkmade [UPDATE: video after the flip below]. Above are some more backstage images from Twitter (float your icon over the image for credit). When I read the initial comments on Thefashionspot about the show, including some chuckle-worthy ones questioning the “floating penis” above the runway, I was expecting to be disappointed, but seeing the looks myself there were obviously at least half a dozen standout items that are sure to be on every Alex girl’s want list, starting with the the trousers and skirts featuring copper zigzags, the bottoms in general, and–swoon, swoon, swoon–all the silky, kimono-inspired dresses. Shoes were great but no new strides there and I need some time to ponder the bags, which are toned down and smaller than in past collections. Time will tell. More backstage images of Alex himself, shoes, bags, a close up on a very neat print and one of Karen Elson in an amazing red velvet bathrobe before the show.

Prabal Gurung’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection is as we say grown and sexy, slightly reminiscent of the late Caroline Kennedy’s look via Narciso Rodriguez. The Gunrung woman is not severe in apperance. She’s sophisticated with a twist, we dare say she’s fun, even bold. ( Can we say M.Obama!) It’s that sexy that you have to have lived more than a decade and a half to exhude, as the clothes only reveal shape and very little skin. Instead of baring it, this sexy plays with your mind with a smile. View all the looks on the next page via Nymag.

We took the streets last night to see if the buzz of last year’s Fashion’s Night Out was going to repeat itself. We started the night with Timo and Alan at the farfetch party, Billy Reid, Rogan, Oak then headed to Broadway. The crowds were there, but as for show stopping street style we felt like we had to search to find the hotness. The ladies above, Jasmin Rodriguez and Mimi Loubeau pretty much made our evening . On the next page a look at a few of our pics. Shout at John at International Playground!

Full sets of Alex Wang’s Spring 2011 collection aren’t up at the moment, but a few looks have shown up on Karen Kooper’s Twitter. A pair of shoes shot backstage are featured here. Definitely the fashion world will be keeping an eye on Wang’s shoes and bags for as much attention as his modern sportswear looks garner, his accessories are killing it. On the next page, see the mint green he uses that will at the very least be a hot nail polish shade for spring, while the white-dreadlocked-East-Village-girl-inspired hair might fall flat.

Cute cover shot of Nicki Minaj for the September cover of Out magazine. Minaj is no doubt landing this interview for her gay-friendly reputation, and while there are no excerpts here from reading other interviews with Minaj, she has said that she developed an understanding for outsiders because of her time attending Laguardia “The Fame School” High School in Manhattan. Yep, that’d do it. At Out, there’s a behind-the-scenes video, and you can catch one more image here on the next page. Via Paper.

At Ruffian’s Spring 2011 runway show, the brand showed an updated version of a the moon manicure that’s become a namesake for the brand. Now, in addition to the moon, there’s a matching tip and the Ruffian logo on the ring finger. Creator of the look and CND stylist, Jan Armold told Stylelist, “The boys want to be known for the moon manicure, but each season they want to do something unique and new with the moon.” Vena Cava offered her own version on her runway, see it after the flip.

The Madewell X Alexa Chung collection launched this morning and some items are already sold out. At first glance, this collection can seem a bit underwhelming….it’s like, all the buzz for what exactly? But then upon closer examination it begins to click, like oh, those shorts and that blouse are no big deal except that they’re velvet, which is kind of neat and different without being flashy or over the top. Like we mentioned yesterday, pretty much perfect for the chain’s demographic, who perhaps is a big more grown, but still appreciates a dollop of fancy. More items after the flip.

Erin Wasson…..she so purdy. Apparently this was THE event to be at last night. Via Knightcat.

Fashion Week in New York as much as we love it , can be a little predictable especially now that the economic climate has shifted into something that males us all think a little harder spending . Richie Rich Spring/Summer 2011 is a label we feature purely for the fun of it. Some pieces are cool but honestly lack the pizzaz and and “bling” creative factor we know the drag community oozes and we’ve seen this kind of show from dame Betsey & Pat Fields. If you are going for something with your brand, go full force into your creativity, what makes you unique instead of trying to be purely commercial. Most geniuses of fashion we really believe trusted their instincts more than just “what will sell?”.A healthy balance is the key. Regardless of our jaded views take a peek on the next page .
