We had the refreshing pleasure of attending the private shinding Jules Kim hosted with Lorenzo Martone at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York, to celebrate Nycked swimwear. If you’ve read us a while you know that we’re long time admirers  of Jules Kim’s talent , sophisticated edge and undeniable hotness. Needless to say Lorenzo Martone (who’s also very easy on the eyes) is now on our radar as he’s had the smarts to associate himself with  dame Bijules. Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz chats about his collaboration with H&M. I’m sorry, it’s the snob in me but I just so wish he hadn’t done this. Five years from now we’ll discover he was forced to do this at the equivalent of a gun pointed at his head and only then I will understand. More interviews from this series after the flip. This V magazine video of the models standing around before they walk is kind of boring, but we’re fascinated by every molecule of this brand so there you have it. And on that note, we see via FashionCopious that Cathy Horyn has decided to go in on Alex Wang’s collection, calling him a thief and not even a very good one at that. It’s always entertaining when someone of Horyn’s power decides to hate on a popular designer/artist/entertainer to that degree. It’s almost as though her goal is to let you know how smart and informed she is and how the masses may be fooled but not her. Reminds me a little of Camille Paglia’s recent dismissal of Lady Gaga. So heavy handed as to mean more about Paglia than anyone else.

The collection includes four jackets (the black one with the MTTM lips logo is my fave and it’s MOB designer, Leah McSweeney’s, too), ski pants, gloves, a hat and a snowboard, which reads, “Well-Behaved Bitches Seldom Make History.” True words!

We can’t see the images from Tom Ford’s show, but nail stylist Sophy Robson offers up an an upcoming nail polish offering. The color is black orchid, nothing amazing or new but the packaging is divine.

Others may be getting more hype but their offerings are not as perfect as Catherine Malandrino’s, whose ability to marry edge, effortless elegance and sex with her Spring 2011 collection is sort of amazing. And while there wasn’t a lot of color or pattern work in this collection, Malandrino is certainly not afraid of it and touched on it here and there with steady-handed fearlessness. And the accessories, and the shoes…all black magical. On another note, Malandrino was the only designer thus far in NY Fashion Week who chose to show outside, using Lincoln Ceter to show her collection. Thus the different backdrop from what you may be seeing up until now. More looks after the flip.

Sally Lapointe formally branded as S.Love  presented her Spring /Summer 2011  collection yesterday in a packed loft space. The models wore super high wedge platforms creating an other-wordly nymph silhouette. The opening which you can see in the video above was stunning. Sharp construction, abstract prints  and attention to detail for this premiere presentation that has  everyone buzzing. Tom Ford relaunched his name as a woman’s wear designer with a Spring 2011 runway show featuring Beyonce, Julianne Moore, Lauren Hutton, Rita Wilson, Daphne Guinness, Farida Khelfa, as well as models Amber Valletta and Stella Tennant. According to Cathy Horyn of the NY Times, the show was held in Ford’s Madison Avenue men’s store and was limited to about 100 editors, who all must have been in heaven to be transported back to a world before the barbarians, i.e. bloggers, crossed the barriers. No images were released (the one on this page is Beyonce arriving), which in addition to protecting Ford’s ideas, certainly creates mystique, and though none will be released until January, one has to bet they will be leaked here and there as needed to create buzz. We post last week about Prabal Gurung’s grown and sexy Spring 2011 collection as here we get a look at the manicures featured in the show. Not everyone wants to go out there when it comes to nail art so this is a nice, mature option that takes the classic French to another level. After the flip, another look, plus a behind view of the hair, which shows an easy and neat styling option for the pony tail.
